Go for your surgery you can always work ot a small monthly payment arrangemnt for your balance and once the bills start rolling in you can always write a letter of hardship , The hospital I work for we do it all the time they may nock 20% off your bill and let you pay over a year or 2.

If your insurance is through work and you are covered and approved for that surgery I would go for it.  You may not be as lucky with your next job and your insurance may have a WLS exclusion to it. Not only that, you will need time off for surgery and you may not be able to get that for another year or so depending on a job.
Go for it

I hope you decide to go for it. You're a very beautiful person based on your avatar, so I wouldn't do it out of fear of being discriminated against, but because this is your time. If you go in and have any of the most serious complications, they'll also be covered under your insurance also, because most of the most costly problems happen within the first six weeks (but don't put off anything that might be wrong!)

Only you know your financial situation, and only you know if you could do it. Really truly..... but you may never get another chance.

If your insurance will remain in affect for 2 months I say go for it.  You'll have surgery this week and time to recover before you start looking for a new job.  Apply for unemployment ASAP.

Something else to think about besides just the insurance situation is the costs involved in living your life as a WLS patient. Remember you'll NEED to budget enough money for vitamins and protein supplements and that's not something you can do without if there's not enough money coming in later. The economy is tough these days and I know some people who are unemployed for long stretches of time and are just barely scraping by .... so you have to take those added costs into consideration when you're deciding.

** Vitamins
** Supplements
** Special, high-quality foods (yes, I spend more on food now than I did pre-op)
** New wardrobe

$1400 is a small price to pay ...trust me..it is so worth it. Think of it as a new beginning and a fresh new start...:)

I'm very curious as to why you would have been let go just 2 days before surgery. Did they know you were having surgery Wednesday? Some might say that in itself could be a termination in retaliation for being off work for surgery. Can your Dr. put you on disability as of today? That way you don't have to file unemployment yet (unemployment generally pays less than disability). And in order to get unemployment benefits, you have to be available to work. So you would probably not even qualify for a chec****il after you were released back to work. I would have your Dr. put you on disability for as many weeks as he will allow (many will write you off for up to 6 or 8 weeks) and THEN file unemployment when you are released for work. Also, you generally have about 45 days after termination to elect COBRA and then another 45 days to pay for it. In the meantime, you may have found a new job before that first 45 days is up. Just something to think about.
