Calories!

So I figured I would take a break from logging my food intake since I religously log my exercise with a heart rate monitor that bases calorie burn on my Heart rate an is programmed with my HR zones.

Since last Nov when my NUT moved me to 1200 calories a day because I was running for about an hour a day she wanted me to get in more calories.  I struggled for months with hitting this number and actually made it maybe 6 times in 3 months while I was logging my food intake. I figured I would stop logging my intake and just focus on eating my 6 meals a day with quality protein.  I pretty much eat the same thing for 3-4 days at a time and cycle between it every 3 weeks so I pretty much can tell from 1 week what I have been doing on AVG for the month.  Since my weight is bouncing between the same 5 pounds, and I saw a 6 pound gain last friday I figured I would start logging my food again to make sure I wasn't getting to lax in my food.  So Saturday I started logging my intake using Livestrong as I heard it has a larger variety of food in the DB.

Needless to say I was pretty disappointed to find out that I am still barely making the 1100 calorie mark WITH PROTEIN SHAKES!  Needless to say my protein is in the 100-130 grams so that is good, I get probably 80oz of fluids on weekends and well over 120 on workout days. I know this is still to few calories and guess I need to work on it still.

My NUT told me to increase my calories to 1650 due to my exercise.  I laughed.  There is NO WAY I could eat that much.  I did stop my food journal and found that I lost 2 pounds.  I also found that I was more aware of the need for protien and actually that increased to 100 a day.  I have gone back to my food journal.  I don't want to drop anymore weight.

I am perfectly content being perfectly UN-perfect

One easy way to bump up the calories are some nuts, like almonds or pistachios.  they are protein and calorie dense without adding 'bad' fats.  But measuring is essential.

sounds ike you are doing very well.  congratulations on your much improved health and physical condition.

Thank you.

As for the nuts.  They are a trigger food for me so they are no longer allowed in my house.  A couple months ago my wife bought a big thing of cashews and another of peanuts. Everytime I went in the kitchen my hand was in the nut jar.  Now I do add nuts but will buy small packs when I am out running around.  I will probably just add another protein shake before bed.
