So what's the deal with greek yogurt?
Since I've gotten off of full liquids, about 2 weeks ago, I've been eating, or should I say, trying to eat greel yogurt. Every one I have looked at that wasnt plain has, at the least, about 10-19 sugars in them. They have 10-12g of protein, but for example the honey Oikos has 13 sugars and the Athenos honey has friggin' 27 sugars. What's up with that? I think the only one I've been able to find that is half way decent on sugars is the Fage plain, and no matter what I do to it, it still tastes like butt! Can anybody tell me what's going on, or what I'm obviously missing here? I ate a whole caramel Oikos once by mistake that had 19 sugars, I thought I would dump, so I got prepared for it, but I didnt. How in the world do I get greek yogurt with 5 sugars or less, and if I do get it, what in the bejesus do I do to make it edible? Anybody that can help, please do!!!!
You need to realize that there IS a difference between "natural" sugar and "added" sugar. Greek yogurt is a natural sugar, meaning there's no added sugar. Take a look at milk. It is a natural sugar so it is ok. You still need to becareful - I'm 1 year post op and I'm a dumper. But, I can have Oikos honey yougrt and be fine with 1 but if I add some extra carbs or fat I dump. You're so early out that you still need to learn what you can tolerate.

Many folks, including myself, don't even try to eat the flavored greek yogurts, because the sugar is so high. I buy the plain, 0% fat greek yogurt and add lots of different stuff to make it yummy.
I use sugar free syrups (like the kind people put in coffe), fresh or frozen fruit, Fiber One cereal, cinnamon, flax seed (ground!), nuts, sugar free preserves.....get creative!
Today, I had Fage 0%, Sugar Free Coconut syrup, Fiber One, and a tiny bit (1/3 of an ounce) of crushed nuts. So yummy! Creamy, crunchy, sweet.....perfect!

You are very right, I did forget about it being natural sugar. I knew that milk etc has sugar, but I've never really looked at my milk carton and actually saw the amount of sugar. I think that's what got me with the greek yogurt, I could easily flip it over and look at the sugars. I guess that explains why I didnt dump. Thanks so much for reminding me about that. I guess I'm still new at this!!
I mix the plain greek yogurt with different flavors of sugar free jam. So far, seedless sugar free blackberry is my favorite. I also have to add 1-2 splenda packets to make it sweet enough for me. Then I usually add about 1/2 cup Kashi Go Lean, or Fiber one to give me some fiber. Kashi adds more protein. It is one of my favorite snacks, but it has to be doctored up enough.
