Why is having difficulty drinking plain water a seemingly common thing? I cant get plain water down for the life of me without some type of slight discomfort. Warm drinks go down better than cold. But i can tolerate crystal light decaf peach ice tea(my savior) and propel zero. Im 3 weeks out and just wondering when some of you experienced relief from drinking tiny sips and were able to tolerate plain water?

for me it is not the fact of it not agreeing with me, I just don't like the taste of plain water post op.  BUT will drink it when I work out in the morning.  Funny thing is that first sip in the AM doesn't sit well for about 5 minutes, after that first sip I am good to go.

I totally understand what you are talking about...I went through the same thing.... and for me it was well into my 3rd month post op before I could drink water without it making me feel sick... it was along 3 months... good luck!!

I experienced the same thing for about two months.  light gatorade and things like that went down much better at the beginning. It does get easier, so hang in there!

I have a theory that it is the pH of the water.... for some people they just can't handle the pH of plain water. I think people with more "acidic" pouches are able to handle water, but those who have few, or NO acid producing parts to their pouches.... their pouch will reject anything that further dilutes a barely acidic environment. If you add lemon juice (acid) to water it becomes tolerable....

I'm three years out, and water still makes me want to throw up..... three ounces makes me feel worse than when I dump! Four ounces and I throw up.

lemon water is my favorite but i havent tried it yet because i thought the acidity of the lemons would upset my stomach. im going to try adding some lemon tomorrow...its good to know other people experience this too!

So glad it's not just me! I can NOT tolerate any plain water. Even bottled water makes me sick! The thought that it might be the PH certainly makes some sense to me. I drink a lot of crystal lite, vitamin waters, and whatnot but I often get tired of only drinking sweet things. Thankfully tea makes me feel great. i was never able to tolerate teas or coffee without sweetener before my surgery but now I prefer them without it.

I'm complete opposite. I was drinking crystal light the first week out of surgery and couldn't get in all my fluids to save my life... I decided to try plain water and can't seem to get enough. I love it and prefer it more than anything else. Weird how everyone's so different!

I have mild dicomfort with icy cold water, so I try to sip it cold.  I have a Brita water pitcher system, so my water at home gets very cold.

No problems with the water at work, as tha****er comes through an inline water filter system.  Its cold, but not as cold as my Btita water at home,

For me, its the cold temperature of the water that is a problem for me.

I experienced that myself and wondered about it.  I mean, it's jus****er for pete's sakes!  You know?

But the good news is that it does NOT last. (I drink water going and coming now with no trouble!)

Good luck!
