Just curious

I have been nauseous a lot lately, and it's been hard some days getting liquids and protein in. I also find that I have a short temper as well on these days. I don't seem to have the patience I once had prior to surgery on good days or bad days. Is it just me or did anyone else have these moments. If you did, did they pass and you go back to normal. I don't like me right now.

LOL.. yeap. Extra hormones. Less food - less carbs - less serotonins...
I am on Lexapro. It helps. I tried to get off it. turned into a royal ***** back on it.

Hormons can certainly keep your mood hoping but one of the first signs of dehydration is irritablity.

I had surgery last monday and my husband says my mood has for sure change too. I'm like you I don't like it either. I think outside of not eating, stress has alot to do with it also. Your completely changing how you function.

ditto on the hormones

As to being nauseous..... if it gets worse, you're in the window where strictures often form..... you should call your surgeon if it gets progressively worse..... strictures are easily fixed but won't take care of themselves..

Perhaps they should issue a "Caution" tee-shirt to postops about their temper/mood swings.

I was not totally myself for six months postop but feel and think I'm the same human as before.... I just had to be taken over by aliens for a while before I regained control.

What's a stricture?

A stricture is what happens when the surgery site heals closed and you can't admi****er or food.  The symptoms are inability to eat, continuously regurgitating any food or liquids taken by mouth.

The nausea could also be from dehydration;  if you're not getting enough liquid you'll feel dizzy, nauseous, and even get to the point where you can pass out.  In that case, you would need IV fluids.

If this goes on for more than a day, call your surgeon,

OK, thanks. I can get a couple bites in but then I get nauseous. The only thing that will go down OK is yogurt. It has been going on for days. Maybe I should call the surgeon. Thanks!

That sounds like a good idea.  If the surgeon decides to relieve the stricture, don't panic.  The procedure is very quick, and you are put into a mildly sedated state.  You'll have a bit of a sore throat when you're done, by what I've read here, but there shouldn't be any pain.  I've actually read of people who've had multiple strictures, but most people only have one or two procedures to take care of the problem.

The dehydration can be more of a problem, because dehydration means you won't get enough liquid in your blood, which means it gets too thick to pump through your system, which is when the
bloodstream doesn't get enough oxygen, then your body takes over and makes you lay down until the dehydration problem is fixed.  Unfortunately this can happen in  places where you can hit your head as you fall and that can be even worse!!

None of this is meant to terrify you, but you need to be aware and take care of yourself.

Good luck!
