I purchased 2 books for my daughter and now they are stuck in my laptop and I can't get them out to the reader.  Its a Sony eReader.

I have a Kindle, and if you did not have the books delivered wirelessly, you have to connect the Kindle to the computer using the USB cable, and then, once the Kindle shows up as a device, you can copy the books files from the PC to the Kindle.  I have never seen or used the Sony eReader, though.

I have the Nook. But the Sony eReader is different (they don't all work the same, you need to know your own equipment and how it works). You'll also probably need to know which model of reader you  have - there are several by Sony. So you'll need to find the manual for your reader or google the answer. Here's what I found

I know that with my Nook, I needed to download Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) to my computer, have ADE recognize the reader (easy - plug it in, look for it, and confirm that that's the e-reader), then drag the e-book to ADE and onto the reader via ADE. It sounds more complex than it is.

Do a google search on ADE, and follow the directions. It'll walk you through it very nicely.

Search for an application called Calibre. It is free. You can convert to any format and then send right to your device  while it's plugged into your computer :)

I tried Calibre it seemed the easiest.  Then I was told the two books I downloaded were blocked.  I a,m very frustrated.  Ready to just buy the freaking books and seel the damend reader.  I had to download another program to supposedly unlock the books, and it hasn't worked either.  But thank you to everyone.

I checked with a friend who has a Sony reader - she tells me that (as with the Nook and Kindle), most books are DRM protected.  In order to download/access them on your ereader, you need to have some form of registration that says you are entitled to have the book.  For my nook, that means that, although I can download a book I've paid for onto my computer and then onto my nook, I cannot hook up a friend's nook and give her the book free.  Her nook needs to be registered to my credit card number in order to unlock the book.

Now, if you downloaded from a free site (Project Gutenberg or the like), something else may be going on.

Best of luck figuring it out!

Does the Sony reader have a the ability to go to web sites like the nook? Could you log in to wherever you bought the books from that way and download to the reader?
