A cup of sugar and a cup of Karo is probably actually MORE sugar content than the marshmallows, but I confess that I wondered if there was something similar prior to pre-packaged marshmallows.  I love them, but purposely waited three years to have one because, for me, they are like cookies... I simply cannot be trusted to eat just one unless there ARE no more!

You can probably make a similar kind of thing with malitol syrop in lieu of Karo, Splenda and NSA peanut butter.

Lora -- I'm sure it is! Which is probably why I won't be making them this year! LOL I didn't even add the best part of the whole treat... the yummy goodness of melted chocolate and butterscotch chips spread on top as a frosting that then re-hardens once cooled!!

By the time Christmas rolls around, I'll only be 10 months out... no, these will not be on the list of treats made this year. Unless someone could come up with a wonderful sugar-free version? LOL My brother asked last year if I thought there might be a diabetic friendly version for a friend of his...

I ate those a lot pre surgery because they are a really good choice for someone with renal disease. They are low in phosphorous and low in potassium.
I can't handle them now. They don't go down well.
In Seattle they have to post nutritional information at restaurants. At the Starbucks those rice krispie treats had the lowest calories of all the "treats"
