Crazy change in your appetite/cravings near your period?

I can't take these stupid cravings I'm having. I'll be awesome for weeks then all of the sudden it is like someone takes over my brain and puts images of Reese's eggs and pop tarts (and I don't even really like the damn things!) into my head. I've eaten like crap for a couple days now and I know it is related to my stupid period, but it doesn't make it suck any less. I get a little cravey around ovulation time too, but nothing this bad. Do you experience these intense cravings/hunger pangs and if so, how do you battle them back. I've just been giving in for the most part, which is not cool since I'm so close to getting to where I want to be for my plastics.

Thanks ladies (and any men who have something to add!!)

It  seems like I can eat endlessly right around my period! As far as cravings-pre op it used to be chocolate and sweets--now its cheese! Melty, gooey cheese of all things! I particularly love this white pizza from Whole Foods--most of the time I can limit myself to a slice or two once or twice a week.  One month I had a slice a day for a week straight!  This month I'm doing really good-I've been eating cottage cheese everyday for the past 2 weeks(apparently I'm not set on the melty gooey part)!

Right now, If I had a broiled elephant, I might let someone have the tail.... I'd eat the REST I've got a bottomless stomach at the moment (plus I'm back at work and using ten times as many calories as when I was doing nothing)..... oh my gosh..... I want to just eat eat eat... not cravings, but I just want more food

This is normal for me but usually I'm too busy to notice. With me taking half-days this week, I certainly notice it!

I always force myself to have at least 20 oz liquid in between any snack, AND to wait half hour after a snack....so usually that spaces things out so that I don't become the SIZE of the elephant I'm sure I could consume in a single sitting.

I definitely get it- I have talked to my wls therapist about it and she said that our body needs 500 extra calories during that time and the cravings maybe valid. For me I start with a drink, then try to have an extra protein snack (usually chobani yogurt) and then still often end up giving and eating something sweet. I also find when I have those cravings they are paired with a bottomless pouch which makes it all the more frustrating!

Yep, the week before my period I eat crap I don't even like. . . .have pie hole? Must stuff with carbs.

I just try to make sure I don't have that crap around during that time and accept what's happening. I do have some trail mix that is mostly nuts, some raisins and a few Reese's Pieces (my own blend so I can monitor how much of each) in the house for just that situation.

Oh, yes ma'am!!!

Its like going grocery shopping while super hungry!  I'd eat anything available and have a full lack of control to stop at 'some', since some means 'way too much' of all the wrong things, or 6 servings of something normally okay had it been portioned within reason!

I tell Hubby ahead of time to hide any candy he may have, especially Reece's!!

I can be a straight-up munchie maniac those few days! Yikes!

Count me in, its aweful! I literally spend atleast a week after my period trying to diet away the things I ate during my period.  I was not like this pre surgery AT ALL.  Now I have cravings and I am hungry and can eat alot more!  I think because my period has started being so heavy that my body is just really lacking and thats how it copes.  I try to drink alot of fluids to help wash some of it away other then that I dont handle it well.

After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.

Two-three days before it strikes I can't stop wanting carbs and chocolate. Yup. And I tend to give in, though sometimes I try to alleviate it with sf chocolate pudding, ... I hate hormones!

Around period time, holy cow, it's like my husband should padlock the refrigerator and cabinets! I want to shovel in anything sweet (especially chocolates) and feel like I want to eat all the time. As far as battling, I really try to resist, but when I can't I allow myself a tiny of piece of the thing I really want and then force myself to immediately shove the rest down the garbage disposal so I can't have it back and change my mind. I think it's just hormonal issues.. bleh.

Laughing my tail off! I am in that exact position, bleeding like a stab victim and can eat three elephants which are nicely fried, battered and salted! Thought I would sign in for some "motivation" and saw this post! LOL! Thanks for sharing. Glad to know its not just me.
