It was about 5days for me. I all of a sudden had these lighting bolt pains for a few hours so I called my dr. and he said it was my body trying to have a BM and if I wanted to get some stool softner to help.

I'm right with you on this one. I haven't gone either and I'm scared to death. I called my nutritionist and she said to take milk of mag to help. I will wait another day I think. I'm not eating so will I even have anything in my system? I think I would feel better if I could just go!

I had a big issue with constipation two weeks after surgery and wish I had been told to take some stool softeners......I would not wait too long like I did....I tried milk of mag and it did not help me.......i am now on stool softeners and miralax every other day......I NEVER want to be that constipated again (it has happened twice post surgery and it was awful!).  I suggest you discuss this again with the surgeon's nurse.

Good luck!

About 4 or 5 days (but I was also on soft foods on day 3 after surgery... so there were more "solids" to digest for me).
