birth control pills questions..ladies only
ok, i had my surgery on the 4th, i have my 2 week appt on tuesday the 19th...i did not have to stop taking my birth control pills prior to surgery....is it that we malasorb the birth control pills? or just that we become a more fertile? do i just need a stronger form of the birth control pill?
i did not any periods for many, many years, i thought i had gone into menopause...but then all of a sudden one started and lasted for 6 weeks..i finally got into dr and they sent me to the obgyn and then i had 2 DNCs done and was put on the pill so that i would cycle every month...that was like 4-5 years ago....i did not go into menopause and obgyn told me i still have eggs left...
i am on the mildest form of birth control pills now....
so now the delima....do i just need a stronger form of the pill or do i have really have to use condoms from now on with the pills? getting the depo shot, i dont do needles very well at all... the next step from teh 2 DNCs is a totaly hystero...but i am not ready to go thru another surgery so quickly and really didnt want to go down that road anyhow unless i just had to..
thanks for any help and suggestions

I went on Nuvaring post op- we had to stop all hormonal birth control 2 weeks pre and post op per my surgeon. And we were suppose to use 2 forms of birth control post op- they did tell me at my 2 month post op apt that I could just use the nuvaring since it wasn't orally absorbed and there would be no malabsorption issue. I know a lot of women get IUD's post op.
Most BC pills are absorbed through the intestine that is bypassed. So all they can do is regulate your cycle or you can use them to treat acne. We also tend to become more fertile after losing even a little weight. I was also told to use two forms of BC. You could move to an IUD or the Depo shot from what I am told.
I had a total hysterectomy when I was 32 years old. I am now 56 and can say that it was the best
thing I have ever done, well some day I might say my RNY was, but not yet, I do hope that day comes though. Honestly, it was wonderful, I didn't want any children, I kept having problems, I had my ovaries taken, also and the only side effect I have had from it is dry skin and that comes with age. Still have sexual desires, etc.

It's good for three years and you never have to mess with it, which will be pretty nice!

There is a lot of back and forth on this actually, some drs make you stop them before surgery because they increase the risk of blood clots. Some don't think it is a big deal and let you stay on them...
I generally think the safest routes are the ones you will absorb through the skin or cervix like the nuvaring or the patch. I hated my time on the depo shot as I spent a lot of it bleeding a LOT, which is the number one side effect of the depo shot actually and you have to wait it out because you can't take it out of your system, you just have to wait until it goes away on it's own.
In my body, a horrific thing tends to happen which is that the period starts and never stops. SO, when I take my seasonique pill, I KNOW that I'm absorbing it, because I don't have my period all month long. Without such a clear sign, I don't think I would trust the pill alone.
Meanwhile, most birth control pills keep you from ovulating, so out of curiosity I would ask the dr if that means that as long as you take the pills and are hoarding eggs, does that mean that menopause will never come?? :D
