Struggling a bit
PHYSICAL ISSUES:I'm just two days shy of 2 weeks post op and have been experiencing some issues over the past 2-3 days that I"m wondering whether are normal or not. I keep getting dizzy whenever I got from sitting to standing or stand up for any amount of time. ALso, feeling VERY VERY weak and shortness of breath with even the simplest of activities. For example Iwas unableto make my sons bed today. Too short of breath and my arms actually felt like lead and ached. IS this normal? When does it pass if it is?
ALso, I noticed that one of my lap sites has opened up and is draining a bit. STaples were removed on monday but now Ihave two pencil point size holes that drain a very small amount of clear fluid. NO fever >>>>anyone with similar experience? Should I call doc on a weekend or wait til monday/
and have finally started to have some of the "emotional issues" that my brother and some others who've had WLS warned me about. I am SO SICK of farina and creamed soups that I gag at the thought of having to have a meal. Iam TOTALLY struggling with the supreme nastiness of preotein drinks...my GOd they are terrible but Iknow, necessary.
so I know I sound like a total cry baby. I hate that Ifeel this way, I hate that people were right when they said "it'll happen to you". Guess I thought I'd be different. ANyway tahnks for reading, thanks for any advice you can give also!

First step..... CALL YOUR SURGEON ... only he knows if you should be seen, but it sounds like he needs to know what is going on with you.
Did they give you a plastic breathing thingamagig when you left the hospital? are you using it? if not, you need to be!
How are your liquids .... you sound dehydratedz?

I chased my dreams, and my dreams, they caught me!
yeah you're right...I'll call him tomorrow. I just hate to bother him and plus since he knows I'm an RN I feel like he must be thinking I should know better.
As for my fluids I do the required 64oz per day but I did have one or two days where I didn't get my full protein and I wonder if that has something to do with it?

You should call now. You'll probably need to go to the ER to be seen. I was short of breath like that and turned out to have a very bad case of pneumonia.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
I was EXHAUSTED for my first two weeks. I would literally cook dinner sitting in my office chair (with wheels!). I would sit down every few minutes - and I sold my kids into slavery to do housewor****il I felt up to it. I mean - it is major surgery. I was told that was completely normal - especially given my high bp, etc. Everyone heals at different rates. Take it wasy until you feel up to it - otherwise, you're going to rush your body's healing process - and that's not a good thing. I was still slightly dizzy if I'd stand for long periods of time up until the end of my third week. After that - I felt GREAT. I'm 4 1/2 weeks post-op and I feel amazing now. IF you feel exhausted beyond what is normal for you - or you're worried - definitely CALL THE SURGEON though! I mean - that is why they make the big bucks - right? Their job is to make sure their patients recover well from the surgery - and I would definitely call about the incision draining - and if you spike a fever, I would go to the ER if it were me.
As for the other issues - I didn't have the same experience, so I'm afraid I'm not much help. But, all I can say is hang in there - it really does get better! People told me that all the time - I never believed them - until things ACTUALLY started getting better!
