Depression and Antidepressants, Post Op
I'm sorry for the loss of your of your parents. It takes a while for that wound to heal. Even when we are on a wonderful journey such as this. Congrats on your weight loss!
I was taking Cymbalta pre-surgery for over 5 years and did very well with it! Around three months or so post-op I began feeling depressed and couldn't understand why. Well, it so happens that one day I happened to go flush the toilet and noticed the Cymbalta capsule came out the same way it went in.
I asked my pharmacist if I could open the capsule, he said "ABSOLUTELY NOT!" I trust my pharm guy very much. He said the contents can cause ulcers in my pouch AND my intestines! So.....PLEASE.....DO NOT OPEN YOUR CAPSULE!!!
Since then I have taken Wellbutrin but felt extremely agitated. I was weaned off and am now working with my doc to find what will work for me. Since I am almost 3 years post-op now, I may switch back to Cymbalta because my pouch and digestive system has matured and that's what worked for me for so many years.
My suggestion to you is ... Never change the form of your medication without speaking to, both, your pharmacist AND the doc who prescribed it!
Depression is common after ANY surgery. Some people need med changes, some don't. Counseling and Support Groups go a Loooooong way!
Spring has Sprung....go for a nice walk! Have a picnic, get outdoors and enjoy the sunshine!
Hope this helps! Have a Happy Journey!
Jules
I believe you'll get through this and will come out on the winning end!
