i still have had no BM since 45 minutes before my surgery on tuesday 4/12. before leaving the hospital i asked my surgeon if i shoudl take that and he said not to worry about it that i will have one and that i see him thursday(this thursday coming up). i don't feel like i HAVE to go to the bathroom but it makes me wonder if i am causing myself anymore problems by waiting. would milk of mag HURT me if i take it now? has anyone taken this without consulting with your surgeon?

I never needed to take it, but it was approved on my list of otc meds.

I've taken it twice, the first time when I was as far along as you are. It was on my list of allowable stuff. I also called and talked to my surgeon's office before I took it. In my case, a little went a long way. I took a half dose and it was VERY effective.

I didn't have that problem, but would suggest if you take it.... a small dose...and it can help you other ways..it is extremely high in magnesium....good for your bones! sweetpotato

I was having that issue as well... I started putting miralax in my protein shakes daily. I have since stopped and nearly everytime I go to the bathroom... I go, ya know? TMI

I've taken MoM twice now - did the trick both times - and I've not had the problem since. It's pretty gentle. The first time I took it - I was only 5 days post-op and my surgeon said it was fine.

I've taken it twice now. Full dose was a bit much. I won't go into the TMI portion of that!!! Just took a half dose today and it worked great.
