My egd was fine... i wasn't
I had a horrible reaction to the benzocaine they used to numb my throat and stuff. I turned literally BLUE. I looked like a smurf, and had tons of needles, meds and other things done to me. Basically the benzocaine bound to my red blood cells preventing my red blood cells from getting the oxygen to other portions of my body. At one point my o2 was 61. BAD! They ran in methaline blue, and reversed it. They also reversed all the other meds, and did an arterial blood gases, and several other items. They bagged me, they tried to place a nasal airway. I apparently didn't like that idea. My 10 am test left me coming home at 3 pm. And with loads of people around me. I found it difficult to sleep last night, as I'd have nightmares, or freak I was gonna turn blue again. Right now my color is ok. Not quite normal, but not blue. The chemical reaction was called Methemoglobinemia. Being a chemical reaction is an incidence of like 1 in 10,000. And in all the years they've done them (10 yrs) here, they have NEVER had that reaction. I had multiple drs, nurses, and anesthesia drs, and my bariatric surgeon. UGH!
