Eating Habits of a Total Insomniac...Is It Bad For Me?

So, I am a complete insomniac. I take Ambien and Melatonin now because I've been through every other sleep med, whether prescription or not, in the past 5 years and the Ambiesn did great for a while. In the past year or so, There is nothing that makes me sleep well. I take my morning meds about 7am, then fall asleep for about 2-3 hours to catch up on the sleep I missed at night. The only reason I am able to do that is because of the certain meds I'm on, and no, I can't take them at night,as it is for pain and that wouldn't do me any good. Anyway, here's my "normal schedule" I know that now in the "honeymoon phase" I'll lose weight no matter what I do, but will this hurt me after that?
7am   greek yogurt
12pm protein shake
3pm protein bar
7pm dinner
11pm cottage cheese
2:30-3am greek yogurt
7am start all over
I am also drinking the entire night and day so I get oodles of liquids in. I get an adequate amount of protein in (75-90g) per day, but I do it all through the 24 hr day instead of just the regular "normal" persons day time. I get about 600-800 calories. I look at it like my body never has to go into starvation mode because I'm eating at least a little every few hours.  I'm neccessarily hungry every time but I know I need to eat. What do you think about my "schudule," should I change it?

I only strive to be, the kind of person my dogs think I am!

Some say not to eat at night

Some say it doesn't matter

I say it depends on what works for YOUR body

What I see in your list doesn't look bad to me (unless it's an entire quart of greek yoghurt)

Now that I have Reactive Hypoglycemia....I always eat just before sleep.. to get me through the night

I also have extraordinarily bad insomnia

It was AWFUL from six months postop for two years, then I was totally cured for four months (I was working an extra 1/3 harder and came home exhausted each day)

Now I'm so so at the insomnia thing ... pain meds are uppers to me, and I'm on pain meds, but muscle relaxants are downers, and the combo puts me in a head space somewhat resembling a normal human

But I often take benedryl to get to sleep. Melatonin worked pretty good for a while. Valerian root too.. ambien gives me very nasty headaches, and I know that RH attacks in one's sleep result in headaches in the morning, which lead me to wonder if I was sleep-eating really bad carbs and dumping on them while taking teh ambien. I don't do ambien anymore unless I'm on day three of no sleep.

I too am a total incomniac.  I sleep very little at night and sleep the better part of the morning and aometimes into the afternoon.  I never eat until at least 3 PM and then eat 4 t imes between then and about 1AM  If I am still awake, I eat another snack at about 5:30 so that I can sleep.  I had my surgery December 13 and have lost 90 lbs.  It seems to work for me.  As long as you feel good and you are getting the nutrition you need, go ahead.  Good Luck
