soft foods...and a few questions

well today i started soft foods. i had tuna with a tiny bit of mayo in olive oil(NUT suggestion), and i put a tiny bit of LF shredded cheese on it, and baked it in the toaster oven enough to melt the cheese. i had 2oz and it was very good. finally something different.

now for some questions

now i absolutely 100% know stalls are normal, and i don't mind them(of course if they are gonna last weeks and weeks i will mind lol). my surgery was april 12th, i seen the doctor april 21st, and was down 12lbs since surgery, 12lbs in 9 days not bad to me. however, since then i haven't lost anything. again i know it's normal to stall, do people stall at 2 weeks? and is it possible i'm doing something wrong to cause the stall. if all sounds like i'm on track with my food/protein i'm fine with a stall i just want to make sure it's not ME causing it.

a normal day for me is when i get up have 33g of vanilla protein in a cup of decaf tea, sometimes i will add an ounce or two of milk in it which would then make my protein 34 or 35g, but mostly it's 33g. lunch i have a 15g fruity protein drink, dinner i have either a 25g drink, or another 33g. the last couple days in between the protein drinks i will occasionally have 1 string cheese, or yesterday i made 1/4c of eggwhites with a little shredded cheese in the morning, then at night i had some vegetable soup, mostly the tomatoe broth of it, and a tiny bit of the vegetables. it was about 1/4 of a cup. i had that in between my shakes. some NUT say don't snack between meals, mine is one of them. however, since i'm technically not having meals other then protein shakes i would assume eating that yesterday was fine?

i probably could add a little more liquids daily, i am getting the required amount, but some days maybe a couple ounces less then my daily requirements. so i don't know if that has anything to do with it.

today i had my 33g of protein drink around 10am, then at 12:30 i made my 15g protein drink but have not started drinking it yet because at 1:15 i made my tuna melt, so in a little while i will start that drink, then tonight again i will have my other 33g.  if this all sounds ok to everyone and the stall is just normal i'd appreciate any feedback. again i'm not complaining about a stall because i KNOW it's normal, i just want to make sure i'm not causing it by eating in between my protein drinks.

At my first post op I dropped 25 lbs in 10 days. Three weeks later at my 1 month post op I dropped a whopping 7 lbs. But then it picked back up a couple weeks later. I think everyone is different.

Personally I noticed when I followed my docs plan of 5-6 small meals a day I lost more weight. He claims it keeps the metabolism up. But I would follow your NUTs advice.

According to *my* plan you would be doing fine food-wise.

Also, I stalled at week 3.  I then decided to stay off the scale.  I was 14 pounds down at 3 weeks, but then had not lost any.  I got on the scale today, and a month out, I have now lost 18 pounds.

If you are eating your protein and getting in your fluids, there is nothing you can do differently.  Your body will allow the weight to come off when/how fast it does and there's not much we can do to change it!

Just keep eating your protein, drinking your fluids, and adding soft foods as your plan allows.

Remember that the fruity/drink type proteins count as a liquid, not a meal so you wouldn't have to apply the wait time. Isn't it nice to have purees??? I started today on pureed ground turkey - sounds/looks gross but I added spices before pureeing so it's yummy. Also had 2oz of an egg with some melted cheese. That was a little harder to get down but did the alphabet song in my head with each bite so was training myself to chew slower...

haven't tried ground turkey yet. the wait time is because of not being able to drink 30min before eating, and 30 min after eating. so far i have had no problems with the egg and cheese but i'veonly had that once. my cousin had problems with eggs and many others i heard from but i'm only having the egg whites, maybe the yolk would give me trouble but i ahven't had that yet. the alphabet song is a good idea. i didn't think of that but i've been chewing very slow but im gonna try doing that now too lol

Oh, I also meant to say this:

I eat breakfast: protein shake
Snack: string cheese
Lunch: 1 egg, 1/2 oz cheese, 1/2 oz canned chicken
Snack: slice of low fat swiss cheese
Dinner: 1/4 cup refried beans

I'm barely making my minimum protein, but this is kind of a typical day for me.

the lunch 1 egg 1/2 oz cheese 1/2oz canned chicken...to me that would scare me eating that much although i guess that's really not a lot at all once its chewed. how much should my stomach be holding at exactly 2 weeks out. my NUT never said anything about that so im unsure. from what i read on here about 1/4 of a cup now

the 1/2 oz of cheese is just a few shredded sprinkles, and 1/2 oz of canned chicken is not even an inch by inch piece.  all of it mixed together fits into a small container (1/2 cup not filled to the top)...chewed up, it's not that much

I am almost 4 months post op.  I 'stall' all the time.  I don't like to call it a stall though.  I won't lose anything for 7-10 days then bam down 5-10 lbs.  Stick with your eating plan, get your water and protein in and exercise.  The weight will come off.  Once I upped my protein then the weight came off in bigger amounts.

My NUT 's plan is 3 meals and 2-3 snacks per day, but the snacks MUST be protein based.  So string cheese, yogurt are my standards.

I think you are doing just fine.  Most of your food is still liquids.

Hi there. I stalled at two weeks and was freaking out. NUT told me it was healing, recovery, constipation, and stress after surgery that it would pass. Indeed it did and the middle of the 3rd week I was walking more and increased my proteins and water and there it hit, down I go. Havent hit another one yet but feeling it will be coming soon. My meals are about a cup size now, and I cant take any more than that in at this point. I hope I am better prepared for a stall this time. Good luck to you.
