i never asked my surgeon or NUT this question and i don't see them til may 12th. how long does it take for your pouch to expand before you can start eating more. i know most say 1/4c is the beginning, then it gradually increases. after how many months does it start increasing to about 1/2c , and then how many months til 1cup

It really varies from one person to another, and some surgeons make the pouches a little smaller or a little larger to being with, but the 6 month and 12 month answer LL gave you is the "standard" one.

This makes me nervous...my plan says 1 cup  starting at 5 weeks...3 times a day =PLUS 2 protein rich snacks.

I'm 6+ years post-op and I can barely eat a cup of food at one sitting.  I think that's too much, too soon.

I agree with Sharyn...  I know that I physically could not have eaten a cup of food so soon!    Depending on how dense the food is, there are times that I cannot eat that much even now, and I will be 4 years out in August!  I would ask your surgeon about that (perhaps it is a typo?!?)

I don't know what I'll do if she says yeah it's a cup...you're supposed to follow your NUT but maybe I should follow YOUR NUT lol...

i wonder if they mean 1 cup total throughout the day. 5 weeks out i don't know anyone who can even eat more then 1/4 of a cup, maybe a tiny bit more but 1 cup yikes i'd probably get sick before even reaching 1/2 a cup lol

Nope...it says

3) Each meal should be about 1 cup total - or 16 tbsp or 8 oz.
4) Take 30 to 45 min to consume.
6) If solid foods are not tolerated well, go back to puree but be sure to continue with 1 cup of food even though you may be on pureed foods.

I left out the things that didn't apply ...I guess I just have to ask tomorrow but I am nervous about the answer. I'm actually googling my Dr. and food plan to see if anything pops up lol..

I was eating close to one cup at six months.  No way I could have eaten that much at five weeks.  And I can't imagine taking 45 min to eat a meal, even once I did eat a cup.

I think we should follow our dieticians when they make sense and when we think their advice is healthy for us.  If they make no sense or we think their advice might do us harm, I personally don't think we should follow it.  That's why I take calcium citrate, even though my surgeon originally told me to take calcium carbonate.
