You might also consider getting together with some of your surgeon's other patients who are newly post-op or will be having surgery soon, and then splitting the cost of some of the tubs (the small ones, if possible) and splitting up the powder.  It is cheaper that way (since many places charge $2 per single serving sample) and you may be able to try some kinds that there are no samples available for even from Vitalady.  (If your surgeon has a support group, that is a great way to connect with his/her other patients.)

I received free samples from a couple of different companies. I emailed every company and told them I was having surgery in May and I would like to try their protein drinks to see if I like them so I could order from them and about 4 companies sent me some samples. Other companies sell a starter kit with all kinds of samples in it. Good luck

Unfortunately, I had to delete this post due to privacy concerns.

Got a lap band in 2008. Tried hard, but didn't lose much weight & developed swallowing problems. Fought my insurance company for almost a year & finally had a band to DS revision on 5/11/12. Have now lost 125 pounds. Yay!
