Hello,

New to the site. My names G-Ann I'm 30 married with no kids just dogs which can be a handful like kids. I will be starting my 2 week pre-opt diet this Wednesday. My surgery is scheduled for May 18th with a 5 am check in so I will be the first surgery of the day. Not too nervous about the surgery. But feeling over whelmed when trying to figure out which protien shake mix to get and which vitamins. Looking for some advice. Also would love to find someone who will be going through surgery around the same time.

Hi G-Ann. I am having surgery 5 days before you on May 13th! I'm also married - no dogs, but a kid and 2 cats lol.

My surgeon supplies the protein shakes for us (at a cost), so I'm not sure what to tell you about that. As far as vitamins go,I'm in Canada so the brands are different. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Good luck with everything, and keep us posted. There are lots of really great people on here who have had RNY for years, so they have a lot of knowledge to share. Ask them anything, they are very helpful. I've learned that no question is a stupid question, so ask away!

I am having surgery on May 13th. I have started my Pre-Op Liquid diet. I have not yet found the "perfect" protein mix for me yet. I take 2 Flintstone chewables and 2 Viactiv chewables (pre op). I plan on taking a different Calcium post op because it is better absorbed. I will be 30 by the time I have surgery! So good luck and if you have any questions I will try to answer them!

I am really enjoying Premier Protien they are pre-mixed drinks. They are spendy if you buy from there site but if you go to costco its just over 20 for about 2 weeks worth for me. I plan on doing powder mixes too but still trying to find ones I like. Happy Birthday!

Hi G-Ann - I was originally scheduled for my WLS tomorrow (5/2) but due to fracturing my arm, it is now to be 5/18 - the
same day as you. I am unsure of the time as my Dr's office doesn't assign them until the day before.

For help w/protein drinks, I visited the Vitamin Shoppe in my area. They were very knowledgeable about Bariatric surgery
and were able to suggest several protein powders and "ready made" products. They were also familiar with customer feed-back on which items seemed to be the most preferred. I purchased a small variety of mixes to try after surgery - personal tastes will change after WLS. I have heard from patients who loved something pre-surgery only to hate it
post-surgery. I ordered some a sample pkg from bariatricpantry.com. Also, try going under the forum tab on
this site, then select the one for nutrition. It brings up a
list of items that have user reviews. This might be helpful.

GOOD LUCK & GOD BLESS!!! Keep in touch K

 Hi G-Ann,
I noticed you are having yours done by Dr. Spitz.  I'm having mine done by Dr. Bright on 5/9, just a week away (it gives me some butterflies just writing that).  I happen to work at the hospital and know that both of these docs are great!  For the shakes, I have been using alot of Atkins shakes, and because I like salty more than sweet, I've been having cream soups with added protein powder.  Fred Meyer has a good selection of the shakes.  I also found a soy tasteless protein powder at Fred Meyer in their health/natural food department.
I ordered a free sample of the "celebrate" vitamins,  they tasted okay and seemed to meet the requirements, so I ordered some.  Hopefully they will be here by post op when I need them.
Good luck and feel free to contact me if you need help finding supplies in Spokane!

Annette,

Nice to hear from one that is going through the same office as me and hospital. Dr. Bright did my orentation back in October very nice guy. Do you know if you are going to be in the new wing of the hospital? Dr. Spitz nurse Megan said it was supposed to be opening any time now. Sounds like they are nice and I love that they are single rooms. I'm a salty gal myself. Like I mentioned in a few post before I am in love with preimer protien which is carried at Costco but it only comes pre-mixed and from what I have been able to find in chocolate. I'd just stick to this as its over 30g of protien in one container but I know ill want more variety. Ordered a sample of Celebrate also.

Hi G-Ann. Welcome Aboard.  I am scheduled for 5/25 - a week after you. Start my liquids only on 5/15.  I have tried and like the World Wide Pure Protein Shakes.  A little expensive, but with 35 g of protein per shake, it gets you what you need. Orderd them online from The Vitamin Shoppe. Praying all goes well for you.
