too much?
yesterday we had our monthly support group meeting and i asked them if 2oz sounds about right for the stage im at. i also said that i hear from lots that half a cup for 6 months, 1 cup for 1 year. they said they(one being the nutritionist) said portion sizes are diff for everyone but they use the hand as a general guideline. the palm is your protein, 4 fingers vegetables, thumb complex carbs
i've never had the full feeling, but i can eat 2oz of everything i've tried comfortably. haven't thrown up or nausea or anything for everything i have tried. yesterday i started my "trial foods" last night i took a mission carb wrap, put ricotta cheese, tomato sauce, and reduced fat mozz cheese on it..baked it in toaster oven and cut it in 4's. i ate 2 of them so half of it. and felt fine.
for lunch today i had half a wrap, with 1 egg made into egg salad with a little of the mayo in olive oil(our NUT suggestion) ate about 99% of it
dinner tonight i took half a wrap, with 3 slices of low sodium turkey, and low fat shredded cheese and toasted it in the toaster oven. i ate almost all of it but i broke off some of the wrap so i ate less of the wrap. i THINK today i felt somewhat of the full feeling, slight tightness in the upper chest area so i stopped at that point.
does it sound like i can eat too much in one sitting. i am 3 weeks today. the first week on liquids i lost 12lbs, i had a stall all last week didn't lose anything since the 21st, and i think within the last 4 days i'm down maybe 1.5 or 2lbs. so i hope i'm doing ok and that i'm causing the stall in the weight loss. i have my 3 protein shakes per day and i get average at least 65g per day, my surgeon says 60-90 grams per day. i aim higher but i never find enough time in a day to get in more then that. i was averaging about 80g for awhile when i was on straight liquids.

I measure everything out...1/4 cup of my protein. And most days I can not finish the whole thing. I think twice I finished it all. I am a month out. But then everyones pouch is different. I know my surgeon said she likes to make her pouches small.

At 3 weeks post op you are doing better than I could have. I was on full liquids for one month and then purees for the next month. At 3 months I could move to solid food but my pouch wasn't ready so I stayed on soft food for a couple more weeks.
All programs are different so stay with what your program recommends. Kudos for going to support group. Keep doing that. Research shows that going to support group increases your chances for success.
My only concern would be why you are eating wraps at 3 weeks out? I would think that you don't need those kind of carbs. Especially not so frequently. They are nutrition poor. Stay focused on protein and if you need something else try veggies (raw may not be tolerated yet). Veggies have more nutrition than a wrap.
I think it is just "old stinkin thinking" that makes us think we need "bread" with something. Not true. I still don't eat bread, wraps or any thing of that kind with white flour - I consider it empty calories that could be used for food that nourishes my body.
As you get further out you may find that white flour or white sugar carbs make you crave more and can get us into old habits.
Have your eggs, meat, cheese etc and ditch the wrap. It will give you room for more protein.
I think your 2 oz portion size is good.

my plan does state i can have the mission carb wraps and that's why i did have it. it says protein first, then vegetables, then carbs...i figured i'd give the wraps a try(well half the wrap not the whole thing for each meal) just to switch things up. but i agree i should stick with the protein and add in vegetables. can't have raw yet but i've had vegetables in my soups. i think i will give the wraps a rest for some time now and maybe have half once a week or something.
I am 2 weeks out and my program does not have us measure ounces, but says we can have 1/4-1/2 cup of whatever it is we are eating - no more than 1/2 cup per meal total. Proteins first, then veggies, then starches. I can finish 1/2 cup of "slider" foods (cottage cheese, yogurt,) but am still in the 1/4 cup range for anything with substance (chicken.) They have provided a very specific list of what we can have (and the amount) with it drilled into us that if it is not on the list, don't eat it! Has your surgeon or NUT given any information about the amount you should be eating?
The only carbs I am allowed right now are mashed potatos and oatmeal (with a limit of 1/4 cup on those.) I will not be able to have any breads for another month and a half or so...and I do find myself craving bread - so I agree with the Siberiancat - I would stick to proteins without the wraps. I know this will be a struggle for me, but egg salad or tuna without bread really isn't so bad!

carbs we can have are the mission carb wraps, oatmeal, farina, no sugar added applesauce, cantelope, and watermelon -- but that's only if we have room after protein/veggies. my packet says what we can have for each stage up to the stage im on. and i've followed all that to the T, haven't tried anything i SHOULDN'T have. but i think the mission carb wraps i should just only have the half maybe once a week and just stick to eggsalad, tuna, or turkey without the wrap
I'm almost 7 weeks out and reading you menus scare me! Like everyone has said though... every plan is different for every doctor. I would agree with above though and give up the wraps and try to fill your 2 ounces with more protein.
It sounds like you are doing great though! :) Way to go on the weight loss!

So are you on soft foods or a regular diet now? I just progressed from Full liquids to soft foods. Today didn't go very well. I tried some lima beans with some fat free ham that I made in the crockpot pre-op and froze. I kept it down, but it sat like a brick in my stomach. I can't even imagine being able to and having the room to eat a wrap. I also get full at 2 ounces though.
IMO I would try to keep the carbs at a minimum. I'm allowed some carbs, but only 1 serving per day. For now I'm choosing to not eat them since I dumped on carbs over Easter. I also dump on 5g of sugar or less too. It's a PITA. I think I'm going to try some eggs tomorrow and see how that sits. My surgeon said today that a lot of people on soft foods love omelets because eggs sit well. I'm not sure how that will go since I didn't like eggs much pre-op.
I'm glad you're doing well though and can eat! I wish things would sit well on my stomach. If in a few days I'm still not feeling well after trying new foods I may stay on full liquids another week.
You've lost 12 pounds in 3 weeks I think that's great! That's 4 pounds a week. Average weight loss for non WLS patients is 1-2 pounds a week. I would aim higher on the protein. I'm getting in about 90g a day and it seems I lose more when I do that. I also feel better when I get that much in. I sneak mine into my puddings and other foods. I'll be adding unflavored to a lot of my foods now that I'm not on full liquids anymore. I don't eat much meat so I will probably be on protein supplements forever. I'm fine with that though.

Every pouch is different so as long as you're following your surgeon/NUT rules, you're golden. And remember that stalls are just your body adjusting - don't beat yourself up about them, especially when they aren't for weeks/months....
I've lost about 12lbs since surgery too but my pouch is a bit finicky. I'm on pureed foods for another 9 days and REALLY can't do more than 2oz at a time - just protein. Figured out that I dump on mashed potatoes so even though my plan allows for some good carbs, I won't be risking things too quickly. So, doing lots of tuna w/ melted cheese, some scrambled eggs (soft beyond recognition), cottage cheese, greek yogurt, protein drinks/shakes, and "thanksgiving in a blender" (ground turkey with spices, pureed into the consistency of cat food). Just kinda "meh" on food, which is actually a great feeling!
