I take medication for depression and the doctors are concerened that with the by-pass surgery that the medication will not absorb the way it needs to. I was recomended to have the vertical sleeve. I am torn between the two.  Is there anyone who has had the by-pass that has any experience with this. Any feed back would be fantastic!

I don't have personal experience but is it possible to change your medication to something that will be absorbed?

i was on lexapro for a year prior to surgery. after surgery i have to crush my pills for 3 months. i noticed my anxiety/depression was heightened while doing so, and the surgeon said it would be fine to swallow...no problems since. it actually helped take the edge off of this whole process...

Thank You so Much Nicole. I take Lexapro too. I think I might have the by-pass.

You may need to have your dose adjusted afterwards.

Before you make a decision on surgery type, I would highly recommend that you educate yourself on the difference between a sleeve stomach and a bypassed stomach.
