suggestions
i'm still trying to get more protein in, and more fluids. i do get the minimum fluids of 48oz per day but i read some people on here get close to 100oz. how do you do it? it's not that i CANT probably get that mu*****ause i don't have issues with drinking - i can take regular size sips/gulps without issues. the problem is i'm just NOT thirsty and i realize now i even drink more then i did pre op. so pre op some days i was hardly getting in my 48oz. i'm just never thirsty so i don't remember to keep reaching for my drink for work and keep sipping on it. i think some of my problem is the protein i put in my 32oz bottle of liquid at work isn't appealing to me so i guess in my head i dont' remember cause i dread drinking it. i focus on getting in the protein rather then bringing an extra bottle of plain water or something to sip on the side assuming that would distract me from my protein. i wanted to set a timer/alarm on my phone but my job treats us like we are children and we cannot have our phones out at all or first time is a warning second time is suspended without pay(and this is a doctors office, go FIGURE)
more so protein then liquids i NEED to get in more protein, again i meet the minimum of 60 but i usually get about 70g per day and i would like to be around 100g. any suggestions with getting that much in would be appreciated - whether it be a suggestion on protein drinks that have higher protein per scoop or just anything. i eat 2 sometimes 3 meals per day, and drink 3 protein drinks to get in my protein. i never have time to eat breakfast in the morning so i drink muscle milk lite in the mornings. anything anyone could suggest to me would be helpful and appreciated.

I do my liquids because I have a job where I speak, and I can't speak if I'm not well-lubricated, and I ONLY drink protein shakes, so after two or three sentences, I take a sip of my protein shake.... and I talk for 4.5 hours a day.... so you can imagine that I get a lot of liquids in. Usually at least 60, and normally closer to 80 oz of liquid per day. Since that's protein PLUS liquid, that's good.... every 20 oz liquid is 23 g of protein
I drink out of a sports bottle so I can't smell the stupid protein powder, and I choose a flavor that is easy and quick and simple. Since that is ALL I drink, I've LONG since gotten so used to the flavor, that there's no yuck factor anymore.

i use a 32oz gatorade bottle for my drink at work. the smell doesn't really bother me but i'm gonna probably invest in a better bottle. sometimes i think drinking from a straw would really really help me with my liquids. i've accidentally drank from them before when i went out to dinner and could only have water when i went out and completely forgot. had no issues so gonna bring that up to my surgeon and NUT on thursday
If it doesn't bother you to use a straw, and a straw will get the job done, USE a STRAW!
I'm not fond of straws, I don't know why, but I used one throughout my convalescence recently and no biggee.
I'm glad the smell doesn't bug you.... for me it was awful in the beginning but I can't figure out what was so bad about it now, since I've been drinking the same protein powder for a couple of years.... it just IS ...... I'd be really upset if they stopped making my brand of protein powder!

I had a very hard time getting in my liquids and protein at first. It will get easier. My doc recommends 60 ounces of fluid and 70 grams of protein per day. I have no problem now getting in the liquids but I still do have problems with the protein. Its very important for you to sip thruout the day. If you don't, and you get behind, you will get dehydrated. It happened to me. I woke up with a terrible headache. I saw my doctor and we figured out that I had fallen behind three days before, and it took me almost 4 days to get the headache to go away. Better safe than sorry on this one! I felt terrible. Anyway, I wanted to wish you luck.
I don't drink when I'm thirsty - I drink when I'm not doing protein or eating. I do alot of hot tea, as that seems to go down easier than crystal light. I've been getting around 80-100oz of liquids since my 2nd week.
First week was a joke - I couldn't do much protein at all and just got in the bare minimum of liquids but put the fear of God in myself by convincing myself I'd end up in the ER on IVs if I didn't force it.
LL has a good suggestion of not smelling your protein & have a souce that counts both as liquid & protein.
I drank ALOT preop so it's a bit the opposite for me, that I wish I could get in what I used to or as easily as I used to.
My suggestion is to bring either a liquid/protein drink or bring shakes & water and push yourself to be sipping on something at every moment. Maybe write a sticky note to yourself and tape it to your computer that says "DRINK!!!"?
