I think my RNY is broke.. LOL
Hey guys. I thought after surgery we are not supposed to FEEL hunger, or have Reflux. I normally drink a protein shake in the morning. However, not even 2 hrs later i FEEL hungery. I also notice some reflux at certain times of day. Sometimes I don't even have to have eaten something bad. I honestly think that may be me eating too fast. That is something I am constantly working on. But the hungry feeling. What in the world?

I too, feel hunger. It's just a tiny little twang, not a huge rumbling. But, how I tell the difference in head-hunger and real hunger is: head hunger-I want something specific (pizza, cheeseburgers); real hunger-I don't necessarily want to eat anything, and even a drink of water will quiet it for a bit. But, it returns and then I know it's time for my protein snack or meal. Real hunger is more easily satisfied for me.
I don't get reflux, but I get a feeling of being stuck or over-full if I eat too much too fast. Or even drink too fast.

There are no ABSOLUTES in this game of WLS; SOME people don't feel hungry early out, maybe even MOST people. But that doesn't mean ALL people.
However, just because you feel hungry doesn't mean you will also be able to feel FULL; so be careful not to consume too much at one sitting or you will pay the consequences! You are still VERY early out...
Best of luck.

I've heard it said that with real hunger( your body needs nutrition) that anything will do - a piece of broccoli, protein shake, etc.
With head hunger you want something specific - chips, something sweet, something spicy, a burger, etc.
Also many times it is easy to confuse the bodys need for hydration for hunger. Try drinking 8 oz of water and wait 10 minutes and reassess your "hunger."
Often, for ME, seeing food, smelling food, commercial for food, talking about food, driving past food establishment - suddenly I think I'm hungry. I stop and think when I last ate and what I had. If I've eaten within 2-3 hours and ate protein, veggies, fruit (no simple carbs or junk), then usually I'm just influenced by my "feelings" and it is head hunger.
If I need to eat - I always eat protein first (meal or snack) - just a rule of mine. Then veggie or fruit and if room then a complex carb.
It is more "normal" for me to eat "by the clock" because I'm not that hungry and would skip meals (a No-No).
You will figure it out - for YOU - in time. Be patient. You are a work in progress.

So far I've been lucky but I'm not as far out as you. I haven't been hungry but it's just the urge to WANT to eat. My doctor has me taking a reflux medicine for 3 months. I'm not sure if every doctor does that, but so far it has been fine. I take Prilosec 40 mg a day.
