My NUT said at my height ( 5'2 ) that I only need to get in 50 grams of protein a day!  I said I was getting that drinking my 2 protein shakes a day and what I ate would just be extra.  She then stressed that it did not need to be ANYMORE then the 50 and to cut back to 1 shake a day.
I see where so many of you are getting twice that amount a day.  What is the bad thing about getting more then required?  Will it cause you to not loose???? I dont get it... just confused.  Would appreciate any advice,  Thank You

Just talked with my NUT Tuesday.  She said keep it at 60-80 grams.  She stressed how important protein it is.

Sadly, there are no consistent guildelines for WLS patients as far as these things.
Personally I found that I lose better when I get in a lot of protein.  I average about 125 grams a day.
A bonus is that last month when I had my hernia repair I recovered faster then I ever have from surgery.  I was driving the next day (no pain meds) and by 2 weeks out I missed my post op appointment because I forgot I had surgery.  I have heard that protein helps you heal and it sure did in my case.
I get in 3 protein drinks a day.  When I increased it to 3 I told myself that if I didn't lose I would cut out the third drink but instead I started losing even better so I kept it up.

I have heard over 100 is good... You can't go wrong with more, it's not going to hurt you. Worse case scenario, your hair gets longer and thicker, and your nails grow,  oh and you're protecting your bones and your teeth... nothing wong with that, huh? More is better, and whoever said you should cut back from only 50 grm, should be shot. LOL.

Too much protein isn't bad for you per se....just make sure you're balanced. Part of the surgery, and part of my journey is, yes, making sure I get my protein in, but also making sure I have a balanced diet. From what my NUT said, protein without fat and calories could start to deteriorate tissue in your body. The protein needs something to latch onto.

Otherwise, protein up!

I'm 4'11" and my nut was happy with my 100+g of protein between food and 2 protein drinks a day.  My labs showed good levels of protein, not too much.
