Calorie question....

I am 2 months out today and am down 24 lbs which is awesome, but also I feel as though I am a ssssslllllllooooowwwwww loser which is frustrating.  I read a post yesterday that someone had lost 50 lbs in 2 months and she didnt think it was enough and then everyone under her also said they had lost that much in 2 months too.

My question is this...I drink a protein shake in the a.m. every morning that has 56 grams of protein and 400 cal...is that too many calories at one time?  I'm thinking this, (the calories) may be one of the reasons for my slow loss.  I drink anywhere from 70- 90 oz per day of fluids, and have about 80t protein a day.  I also am usually very good about my vitamins.  Exercise may be part of the culprit, but I am working on that.

I know this surgery is NOT a quick fix, and I have NEVER lost this much before.........guess I just need some ENCOURAGEMENT!!!!!!!!

Have a great day everyone.

This is a life long journey I am ready to take...bring it on

I was a slow loser also. At the beginning so many posted their weights and I thought I was doing something wrong because I was not losing like them.
But follow the program and it will come off. I hated hearing that. But it is true.
You are doing great. I thought I was going to be the only one to go through this and it not work for me. But here I am 5 months later and down 85 lbs total. 30 pounds was before my surgery. So I lose about 10 pounds a month. And I have had two stalls.
I started my diet Nov/2010 so I don't think its to bad looking back on it.
So don't get discouraged. You are doing great. Hang in there. Make sure you get your vitamins and your protein and stay health. That is why we did this. Too Feel Better!

Protein and water amounts sound good.  I would try to spread my calories throughout the day more.  Most important, you are starting at a much lower weight than many people and so will lose less each week/month because you have less to lose.  I think your rate of loss is fine.

Don't worry about calories at this point, focus on your Protein and fluid goals.  Don't compare yourself and loss to others this will set you up for many many days of frustrations and let downs.  When someone asks what people have lost by a certain point I almost wish people would refuse to answer, but understand that people are proud of the progress they have made.  You too should be proud of the progress you have made.  People will lose at different rates based on a number of factors one of which is how big were they when they started.  Someone needing to lose 200lbs is going to drop the first 100 fastert than someone who needs to lose say 110.

You say you know exercise may be a culprit well if you feel that you haven't exercised enough then there is 1 way to fix that  and no one can make you do it.

So you are a slow loser... SO WHAT! at least you are losing and you are probably losing faster than someone else.  Follow your doctors protocol and keep working hard and you will lose, hell you are going to lose regardless at this point but better to build your habits now.

Awesome job an your progress so far!

Paul,
I really like your post. You said it all. We do get hung up on what others are doing. I know that is why I was discouraged at the beginning.

I agree!  You can't help but compare.  I'm 4.5 months now and have lost almost 62 and look at you, you have lost 85!  I'm so impressed so excited for you and wonder on the other hand, what in the hell am I doing wrong!!!?????  I do eat breads, the low calorie ones though and count my calories through myfitnesspal.  I eat about 1200 calories a day and think, my gosh, with 1200 calories, I should be dropped weight like crazy.

Hi there!  I'm chiming in to agree with Paul.

However, I think it is important to note that you started out at 218 pounds!  Someone who weighs 300+ is going to lose 50 pounds in two months but for someone who weighs 218 that is going to be harder to accomplish...just keep that in perspective.  Someone wise told me that this isn't a sprint it is a marathon...these things take time!!

Good Luck!

We are 2 days apart on surgery I was March 14, 2011. I was wondering what Protein you are using that is that high and that many calories. I use Unjury daily 1.5 scoops in the morning with Silk Light chocolate or Almond milk 4 ozs. for breakfast, . My calories for that is about 160 with that amount and it gives me 36 grams of protein or about 80-90 total a day. I am still averaging about 600 calories a day with a small lunch, another shake in the evenings, and a couple of small snacks. I also get about 60-80 ozs of water a day.

I started above your weight at 248 and to this date am down to 195 or 53 lbs. I do want to know more about your protein though and if the taste is any good. I would love to get more protein in as I have found that the higher that is daily for me the better I lose. You are doing great just keep up the hard work. Have a good one.

I was told our bodies only absorb 30 grams of protein at one sitting over the hour so I would break my protein up as you may think youre getting that much but you arent absorbing it all if its 56 grams at one time....I have 600-800 calories a day , 60-80 protein and under 50 carbs I am a slow looser also and wont be weighing in till next month but my first month was 14 lbs . Ill take anything thats going down lol
