Anybody out there with insomnia?  It's been really bad since surgery.  My sleep Dr. thinks I have an underlying sleep disorder.  A friend of mine thinks I may have narcolepsy.  I'm good to get 2 hours, stay awake and maybe get another two hours.  I'm taking 4 different meds to help me sleep!  I take Nuvigil during the day but on the weeknds I can still nap. If I don't take it I sleep off et on all day.  There are other things too...but...lets just say I have alot of 'alone' time in the wee hours of the morning.  I will be having another sleep stufy after I reach my goal weight (another 50 pounds).  I'll stay there all nite and the next day.  I sure hope we can get this figured out.

Do you wear CPAP? What did your last sleep study show?
I'm a night shift worker so I always have wonky sleep. Are you  drinking a lot of caffeine?
Right after surgery the anesthesia can affect your  sleep.
I hope you get to the bottom of whats causing yours.

No cpap anymore.  I've lost 100 pounds so far.  No other caffiene except a cup in the morning.  I used to work nites all the time.  Did ok when I was younger, but got to a point where I can't tolerate it.  I love my job now ;-)  Anyway....I'm 7 months out.  I'm getting good exercise too!  Yea, say a little prayer for me that I can fix it ;-)

I have bad insomnia also.  Dr has put me on ambien which works great but I also get all the other odds and ends things by taking them like, ambien sleep eating, talking to people on the phone and not remembering.  Freaks me out but I sleep so well with them.  I try and not take them but I stay wide awake, PMs dont work anymore, I am at a loss too.

Karen...I'm currently taking 4 things that would help sleep...Ambien is one. I know exactly what you mean about doing things you can't remember!  It's scary.  Last nite I wrote an OLD boyfriend a note on FB and sent him a before and after picture!  This morning I thought, "What was I  thinking!"  Oh yea and wanting to roam the kitchen is another thing.  Thank God I can control that!  Well...it's nice to talk with you so early in the morning ;-)  Have a good day!

It sounds like you might want to try your cpap agin. Maybe that's why you keep waking up despite the meds.
THere are a lot of folks that have insomina around here. I think rapid weight loss and muking around with your hormones can really affect sleep.

You are so right about the hormones.  I took hormones before surgery, but never restarted them.  I've had hotflashes like crazy.  If anything could be a reason for the insomnia it very well may be menopause!  The hotflashes don't wake me up though.  As far as cpap...my Sleep Dr. and Pulmonologist said I didn't need it anymore....yay, one less thing.  A benefit from surgery ;-)

Wow that makes me feel so not all alone about doing weird things on Ambien.  My kids think it is so funny when they call me or I call them and I can't remember.  I am trying very hard to take the pill and go straight to bed but sometimes that is just not the case. I tried going without and get no sleep.  Its a lose, lose situation.

In the meantime your doing wonderfully Bridget and I don't blame you for being proud and showing off to your old bf.  I always worry about emailing my ex husband  but so far so good and I haven't ( yet)

I too have really bad insomnia. I have 4 kids to take care of so I need my sleep. Because of all the things I have read about ambien I refused to take it. So my doc told me to take Melatonin it is OTC and it works great for me. No side affects at all and I sleep so nicely. But wake if my kids need me which was a big thing for me. I hope you find something you can do to help you get some sleep.

Since my surgery, I have been unable to sleep. The doctor thinks it'll pass in a few months. He's thinking it's hormone related. I'll be tired all day, but the moment my head hits the pillow, I'm wide awake. He told me to take over the counter stuff- sleep aides- and they work well for me. I'm groggy in the morning until they wear off, but it beats the alternative of not sleeping.  I'm so sorry to hear about your insomnia, it is incredibly frustrating when you can't fall asleep!
