Those that had uterine ablation, did your iron #'s improve???

I'm scheduled for the ablation Friday. Besides being beyond thrilled to get these long, heavy, painful periods taken care of, I'm extremely hopeful it will help my iron numbers. Wanted to see how you responded to the ablation in regard to your iron. Wouldn't mind hearing how your periods did after the procedure either!

Thanks!

Denise

Hi, I had my ablation 5 years ago. I have not had an issue with my iron levels since. Two weeks before my ablation my level was 6 the Dr. had me take additional iron to bring it up for the procedure it was an 8 on that day. After the procedure my levels have been within normal range. My period went from from 10 heavy flow days  with an additional 5-7 of spotting to 5 days total.

I had my ablation 1 year before my surgery, but I have not had any iron problems since I had the oblation.  I was at a 2 before the procedure and I am now in normal 14 level.  Which for a RNYer that is very good.  I do take iron every day just to make sure I stay that way.

As for my periods, I went from almost constant for almost 18 months heavy, terrible pain and not really getting any relief to I have not had a period in almost 3 years.  I do get all the symptoms bloating and sometimes cramps, but nothing as of yet.  I am not complaining  Just wonder why it took them so long to offer me this option.  Anyways good luck!

I had my ablation one year ago this month.  It was not exactly what I expected, it took a lot longer than I thought for the "results" to kick in.  About 7 months.  I can say that my periods only last about three days, with one day "fairly heavy" and I only get cramps one of those days also.  I used to know a full week before that my period was coming because the cramps would start that soon.  Now, it just shows up and suprises me.  I have a tubal, so I don't track my TOM, not worried about pregnancy, etc.

My iron levels were low before the procedure, and now they are fine.

Good Luck!!!

Denise,

I had it done last year in February and I still have a period, still have to wear tampon and pads(overnights) and my iron is still low.  It lighten up a little bit.  This last time I came on after going off two weeks prior.  I said if it happens again I am going to the doctor again.

The ablation did nothing for me.  I ended up having a hysterectomy 5 months later.

Man, I was getting so excited reading the responses, but then the other side of the coin chimed in. Guess it will really just be a wait and see kind of thing. Not fond of the idea of a hysterectomy, but also not fond of 18 day periods!!

Thanks ladies!!

I had my ablation 11 months prior to WLS. I didn't have any iron issues prior to or after. My periods completely stopped after the ablation and I had a 2 very light periods in the 2 months after my RNY and nothing since. I do get occassioal "crampy" feelings but nothing like before the ablation. Good Luck!!!
