Seeking Vitamin Guru Advice- Low Iron (edited to add- and apparantly, low protein too!!)
I see my Surgeon on June 1st and this will be discussed.

In the meantime.... I just saw a copy of the report that he is being sent (don't ask)... and see that my iron is low. Of course, I don't know what these numbers REALLY mean, so any pre-appointment advice is appreciated.....

Fe+TIBC+Fer+Folic

Iron Bind Cap (TIBC) - 232 (Normal 250-450) Low
UIBC- 155 (Normal 150-375)
Iron, Serum- 77 (Normal 35-155
Iron Saturation- 33 (Normal- 15-55)
Folate (Folic Acid) Serum- >19.9 (Normal >3.0)
Ferritin, Serum 50 (Normal 13-150)

1. Appreciate advice/interpretation.
2. What is the quickest way to get this higher?

THANK YOU!!!!!!
Do you know your protein levels? Other than your TBIC being low the rest IMO look ok although I hope you are supplementing with iron to keep your numbers there and ABOVE.
A low TBIC can also be related to malnutrition so knowing what your protein numbers are might shed additional light on your situation.

My Protein follows:
Protein, Total, Serum- 6.9 (Normal 6.0-8.5)
Is this the one you are referring to?
The only other items that were "flagged" are:
Cholesterol- 228 (Normal 100-199)
LDL Cholesterol- 139 (Normal 0-99)
BUN/Creatinine Ratio- 29 (Normal 9-23)
B6- >100 (Normal 2.0-32.8) Wow, just noticed that!
Prealbumin- 18 (Normal 20-40
B12- 1391 (Normal 211-946)

This is a nifty little site to help with lab test.
www.labtestonline.org
The test measures levels of prealbumin in the blood. Prealbumin is a protein produced primarily by the liver. It serves as a source of amino acids for the production of other proteins, and it carries substances such as the thyroid hormone thyroxine throughout the body. Prealbumin has a half-life of only two days, which means that it breaks down quickly in the body and the amount changes rapidly, decreasing when there is a protein deficiency. This short half-life gives doctors a snapshot of a person's current nutritional status.
I'd suggest adding another protein shake if you can.

Iron is not too bad but a little higher would be better. Same with protein, your prealbumin is low (means not getting enough protein) and other protein numbers on the low side.
How much iron do you take and what kind?
How many grams of protein do you get in an average day? You get some protein besides that one 35 gram shake, right? I hope so.
Just wanted to mention, your B12 is Beautiful. Don't let them tell you it's too high. It's perfect. I'm jealous.
