our doctor recommended viactiv chews.  I started out on them and a post opt patient told me the same thing that you just posted her Kelly.  I went to the drug store and got liquid calcium citrate by wellesse.  I tastes good and says fast absorbtion.  2 tablespoons a day is the recommended dosage.

It's not all calcium citrate, though.  It's citrate AND tricalcium phosphate.  You won't absorb the tricalcium phosphate.

Kelly-

Do you mind if I crosspost this on the VSG board (I will credit you, of course...or you can crosspost yourself)? There is always confusion over there about what ppl should be taking and this post is PERFECT.

Thanks!

Oh, go right ahead and post it.  I'm assuming it's true for VSG folks, too, right?  Since the stomach is so much smaller than normal, you make less stomach acid?  Or is that true?  Because "normal" folks, while they might absorb calcium citrate better, will absorb calcium carbonate OK.

Thanks!

The latest ASMBS publication that I've seen says VSGers need at least 1500mg calcium citrate so I assume that since we have little stomachs with less acid, we need citrate as well.
