Question about dense meats...
I do not have a NUT to ask, so I thought I would ask here until I have my 6 month follow up in July.
I have noticed when I eat dense meat like chicken or beef that I feel extremely full after 1/2 ounce. If I dip the meat in ff ranch or greek yogurt I can eat 2 ounces plus an ounce of vegetables.
I know we are supposed to stop when we no longer feel hungry, but with dense meat I can eat 2 small bites and not feel hungry.
My question is... Do you dip your meat in something to be able to eat the 2 ounces and get your protein in, OR do you eat the dense protein by itself and rely on the shakes for protein?
Thanks so much for replying!

I have found that condiments and sauces are my friends when it comes to meats and poultry -- especially if they are a little dry. I use horseradish sauce (made with plain greek yogurt) for beef, greek yogurt ranch dressing for about everything, dill and chopped green onions mixed into plain greek yogurt for salmon, and salsa or guacamole for chicken. Wholly Guacamole makes 100-calorie packs of guacamole that are great for this. At my store, they can be found in the deli's refrigerated case.
I still drink a protein shake for breakfast every day and often have one for lunch as well.

I didn't have any problems with dense protein but I used the crock pot or moist heat most of the time. Or sauces or cream soups. I love chicken thighs cooked in golden mushroom soup in the crockpot. I still eat 2-2.5 oz for 3 meals most days and have 2 protein shakes a day.

I have noticed that meat goes down much easier if it is soft and moist. I will have to try that crock pot chicken recipe. We grilled a lot over the weekend, and that is when I noticed the meat filling me up so fast. I have a great, happy pouch 99% of the time, but I bet that meat was just way too dry.
I recently started adding a second shake after reading on here that most doctors prefer 80- 120 g of protein. My doctor only requires 60. Since I added that second shake in the evenings, I feel so much better. The scale is also moving more too! :)

I have always loved to dip things and I still do. I have a very hard time if meat is at all dry. I can eat beef, for example, if it is sloppy jo meat, taco meat..stuff like that because it has sauce on it. I can eat small bites of juicy steak if I dip it in A1 sauce. I can eat chicken if it is shredded for sandwiches in the sauce...tuna for sandwiches with mayo..but NOT plain! Too dry! I have to dip any meats I eat...I don't drown them so they slide down, but I make them moist. It helps alot!!!
I agree with OHIOH so much. It sounds like I could have written that post myself. I cannot eat dry dense meat at all. Rare steak with A-1 is my easiest and I love sloppy joes and taco meat or just loose hamburger with salsa on it. Shredded meat from a BBQ joint goes down if I cut it in short shreds and add sauce. It's all about moisture for me. My worst meat is chicken breast cooked any way. It just makes me sick. I can eat boneless, skinless thighs cooked in the slow cooker with Pace picante sauce (has to be Pace). Wrap the meat in a low carb tortilla and enjoy.
