I didn't know it would happen this fast. It has only been a little over 2 months since my gastric bypass. I went to bed Monday night and felt fine. then about 2:30 I woke up in horrible pain in my upper right side that went all the way through into my back. i couldn't lay still and get in any position that was comfortable more than 2 seconds. I had my nephews little girl and she was in bed so I toughed it out for about 2 hours. I was almost in tears. Finally about 4 I texted him at work and told him I was in pain and headed to the ER. He said he was on his way but I had already driven myself. I was hurting way too bad to wait. I got there and had to wait even more. I was about to scream when they finally got my back. My liver enzymes were through the roof and my bilirubin was also high. They got the pain under control and admitted me but I had to wait til today to have surgery so they could get those liver enzymes under control. They had me on a clear liquid diet but I didn't want anything to eat anyway. I just know I gotta get back to my protein ASAP...i am feeling fine tonight. Very little pain and soreness. I'm going home tomorrow....I was also very dehydrated and they were pumping me full of IV fluids and I have gained 15 lbs. I hope it comes off quickly..Pray for me!!! I need it. I'm bummed about that.

That's such a nasty pain.  I had mine out because of stones about 20 years ago, but I still remember the pain when those stones were stuck.  You'll feel much better once you are healed...and you won;t have to worry about problems from it down the road.  Sending good thoughts for a speedy and uneventful recovery.

I don't know if you have had your surgery yet or what type you are having but don't worry. I had gastric bypass 2 months ago and the pain wasn't near as severe at this...Thanks for the well wishes. I sure could use them right about now. I had a bad night and didn't sleep much.

Yes, I did have surgery already, RNY, about 3.5 months ago and it has gone wonderfully.   You are so right about the gallstone surgery being more painful, plus you were already in pain from the stones and recovering from your first surgery..the pain from RNY was minimal for me, mainly it was the gas they used that made my shoulders hurt that was a problem.   Sorry you had such a bad night, I hope today will be better.

Did your surgeon prescibe Actigal after your WLS?  Since I will be keeping my gall bladder mine is prescribing it for me.

Nope, he did't give me anything to pevent stones. I was full of them. I'm so glad it's over and hope this pain goes away. This was way worse than the gastric bypass was.

I was also on Actigall for the first 6 months but from what I read here and on another forum, that doesn't seem to be common pratice.  Not sure why that is.

Unfortunately they're possible even WITH Actigall--my surgeon's seen it.  I asked for another 6 months of it and was cautioned that it may not 100% prevent them but still worth taking the pills in my book...

Tracy, so sorry to hear about the pain you have been in; that must have been really rough!  I'm hoping you are feeling better soon and I wouldn't worry about the gain from the IV fluid, that will balance out very soon for you!

Get better soon!

Hello,
Omg I feel so sorry for you!!!!  They didn't require an ultrasound for gallstones before the surgery?  Mine did.  And thank goodness she did because I had Sludge so when I had the Gastic last month they took it out then.  I can't even imagine going thru that agaiin.  I actually didn't feel any pain at all from my gallbladder till I went on the liquid diet and lost about 15 lbs then the pain started a couple days before surgery....not half as bad as what you described.  I'm so sorry!    I hope you feel better....don't worry about the weight gain you'll lose it ....We are here for you.  Keep us updated.
