I need a pep talk or a swift kick in the ass...
OK, so I was doing ok. I have lost 47 pounds in total. Not bad for 5 weeks worth of work. Well its that time of the month and my "snackie person" has returned. I have had 2 Chocolate Chip cookies this week and a few sips of sodie. I know I shouldn't, but that little girl I live with is just....argh!!!!!!
Anyway, everyday that I do wrong I try to wake up the next day and start fresh with a great protein shake and a bag of protein rich food for work. I made speghetti this week and probably ate about .5 oz of the whole grain pasta and 2oz or so of heavy meat sauce. I really am taking in all my protein. At least 80g a day, but I feel like I am eating all the time especially since we have to deal with the time issues of not drinking 30 min befor and after. I mean sometimes I feel like I am doing good and then sometimes I eat a cookie. I mean what the frig????? Just a lil help please. I see the surgeon on 6-28 and I don't want him to be like, "what happened?"

My standard reply is to stay away from the carbs, especially the refined carbs. Eating them will just make you want more and there is no nutritional value in them. That means whole wheat, too. That was always a trigger for me because I would always wind up eating the white flour after I had the whole wheat flour. Really, my body doesn't know the difference. Bread is bread and pasta is pasta, even with whole grains.
I know it is very hard to resist treats at that time of month. Try to find a high protein treat, like Greek yogurt with sugar free pudding mix or even sugar free pudding with some unflavored protein powder mixed in. Don't deny yourself treats, just make them healthy for you.

If you are approved for veggies, you could try spaghetti squash. I have been eating low carb for 8 months in preparation for surgery and I found that I loved that just as much. Also--not sure about this--but maybe a small piece of dark chocolate would be better than a cookie. Maybe it would satisfy your sweet tooth, but without the high carb of a cookie. Or maybe greek yogurt with something sugar-free mixed in?
Here's another substitution idea - the next time you get a sweet craving, have a calcium chew. The BA brand chocolate flavor tastes like a tootsie roll, the lemon BA flavor is like starburst, and the Calcet brand flavors are just phenomenal.
And a lecture - AVOID those tempting snacky foods! Don't keep them in the house! If they're for someone else in your family, have them keep the snacks in their room and away from you!
Much luck....

There is no reason in the world for not drinking 30 minutes before you eat. Your pouch is a funnel..the liquid goes right through. I would have a difficult time getting my fluid and meals in with that rule. If that was my doctor's rule I would ask them to explain why.
You are not going to be perfect. No one is. Just keep trying.

i was told that we should not drink 30 min befor or after due to malabsorption. If you drink with meals or soon after you will flush out the small portions we eat and your body will not have maximum absorption. It makes sense but who has an hour and a half to eat 4 or five times a day and I can only drink about 2 or 3 oz at a time. You know, everytime I think i am doing well something else seems to pop up. well today I have had 65 grams of protein and still have a pc of tilapia and a yogurt for snack to eat.
