Kelly,

As a pre-op (soon to be post-op..yay!)  I personally LOVE all of your posts. It never hurts to be reminded of vitamins that are so essential for our bodies. Life gets busy and sometimes we forget. Most (not all) deficiencies can be prevented by following the ASMBS guidelines. Unfortunately, not all medical professionals follow these guidelines.

It's great to see you posting again. When you are not around for a few days, you are missed!

Thanks for all your info. Like with all posts people can choose to open or not to.

Thank you for posting these. I have been reading posts on the site for a little over two months and REALLY appreciate the words of wisdom and insight. It can be a little overwhelming to try to find the right vitamins and I do not want to screw this opportunity up. So, looking for the correct vitamins is at the top of my grocery list today. Thank you so much!

Thanks for your vitamin postings and links.  I can NEVER have TOO MUCH info regarding my health and my body.

My B12 has always been really high (usually over 2000) so I have cut back to 1 2500mcg per week and it's started to slowly taper off (1700 my last drawing).  I guess I absorb B12 from my foods as well as the sublinguinal tabs.

Kelly, I appreciate your posts as well. I have learned so much from them, and always make my decisions based on the ASMBS guidelines now vs. my surgeon, simply because I don't think he always recommends stuff based on those guidelines. ie. I had my 18 mo check up the other day and labs weren't even brought up! I said I'd feel more comfortable doing it every 6 months vs. their recommended once a year. So they gave me the orders, no problem.  But I had to advocate for myself.

Thanks again. You're appreciated!

See, I think my surgeon was a GREAT surgeon, as in, great at cutting and sewing.  I did not have a drain, I was only in the hospital one night, I healed really well, didn't have that much pain.... I think he did a great job with the surgery.

But he knew diddly about vitamins.  Which is OK, that's not his area of expertise, that's not what I hired him for.  I go by the ASMBS guidelines, not what he told me, because they are the experts in that stuff, not him.

Yes I totally agree with you there. Same thing for me..my surgery experience was flawless, but the post-surgery "care" has been questionable in terms of getting information that I happen to know is accurate vs. his own ideas, presumably based on patient experience. I don't know, but it's critical to me to be educated on my own when it comes to this stuff.

I always feel like I need to be educated and advocate for myself, not just with regard to WLS but some other health issues I have.  I've become very big on wanting things based on research and science, not just my doctors' personal ideas they think up in their heads.
