Newbie-Liquid Diet and worried

 Hello all,
This is my first time posting on this forum, but I started my liquid diet this morning, and already it seems to be a struggle. My surgery date is June 24th, and I feel I have emotionally tried to prepare myself. I am going to stick to the prescribed diet religiously, but I was wondering if anyone else felt worried. I've done fasts before, but it feels very difficult, mentally and emotionally. Did other people have trouble at the beginning? I've been on so many diets, I feel I am still worried about succeeding with the use of my weight loss surgery as a tool. Any help or support would be helpful!

Steph,
You'll be fine. Are you having Dr. Hornbostel. I know he moved to St. Joesph and he's awesome. On the liquid diet the first 3-4 days are the worst and then you kind of get into the groove and it goes pretty fast.
Be sure you drink lots of water and if you need to chew get sugar-free popcicles - I still eat at least one nearly every day in the summer. For broth I didn't like the Swanson's chicken broth so I fixed old fashioned Campbells chicken noodle soup and strained out the noodles and gave them to hubby (or threw them away). The broth tasted much better and more familiar to me. You could do that with nearly any soup.
You won't fail - the surgery pretty much guarantees that if you follow the doctor's instructions you will lose lots. I don't know how much you need to lose but I lost most of my 100+ pounds in the first 5-6 months and then it took the rest of the year for the rest to come off. It's been 4 1/2 years and I've done well. The most important things after surgery are water, protein and walking. You'll lose quite a bit on the liquid diet - a great jump start for you.
Hugs and keep posting - everything and anything. We are all here for you.

HI Stephanie,
I'm starting my liquid diet next week and I've been having a lot of emotions about it, too. I think this is the first part of facing the fact that we all have emotional/psychological issues around food. If we didn't, we wouldn't be here. For me, moving closer to surgery on July 11, I have started to try and breathe through the hunger one minute at a time. I get an almost frenzied feeling when I feel deprived and it reminds me that food has been my crutch, my addiction. So, for me, I'm trying to just relax through the fits of emotion and see that I'm still OK if I don't eat. Hunger is something I have rarely felt. I always ate before the feeling came up. Now, I'm trying to realize that I've almost trained myself to feel anxiety when I'm hungry instead of relaxing and telling myself I can be hungry and still survive. This is the start of our break-up with food. The relationship has to end. It's never easy to start something new or to change, but this is your time to face these issues and move forward. Just like me and the thousands of others like us on this site. I'll send you strength and a reminder that you're not alone! We're in this together and I really understand how hard this is. The best part is all the other people out there who can tell us how much better things will get!

Take care,
Kim

I with ya sista!!!!  I started mine last night and today is my full day of liquids.  And I've gone to the bathroom more times then I can count.  But I keep thinking "I'm peeing out the fat" lol

You the broth that comes in container.  I started on that last night and drink the rest this morning for snack.  Got a good protein poweder shake from CVS I mix with my 6oz of skim milk, had that for breakfast.
Getting ready for my third bottle of water now.  DH went to the store and pick up some more broth for me  seafood broth tonight,  it sounds yummy.

Question---Does anyone know when your body starts burning fat on the liquid diet or is it all water weight?

I know how you feel! I'm on day 4 of my liquid diet. The first three days were the hardest. I feel like my normal self again today. I had a breakdown on day two and cried my heart out. I think it actually helped to let it out. My biggest recommendation is to use different proteins so you have variety. It helps me. I have either Bariatric Pantry Hot Chocolate or Cream of Mushroom Soup for my dinner shake, then use higher protein shakes for my other 2 to make up my 60g a day.

Also, I drink lots of water and I use MIO (http://www.kraftbrands.com/mio/) to flavor it. They have a bunch of flavors and that helps.

I hope this helps you. Good luck with your liquid diet and surgery! My surgery is on 6/20.

Thank you all for your responses!
Today is day three and going better emotionally.
Adamsamah- yes I am having Dr. Hornsbostel, and he is wonderful so far! Did you have him for your surgeon? Is there anyone else that has had Dr. Hornbostel? Thanks for the support! :)
And good luck Kim and Gastric Kitty! I hope your pre-ops are going well!
