OMG the emotions are going nuts right now. I am so scared I broke down and cried and still crying. Please tell me that it is going to be ok. My parents are scared and support me but you can tell by there actions that they are not to happy. My mom who is my best friend and more worried about health problems down the road. Now the bad side of me is taking over the good side and saying don't get it done lol. How do I convince the bad side that I will be ok haha.  I guess the nerves are just getting the best of me. Just scared that things will go wrong omg. Has anyone out there had any health issues after having the surgery? I have my first support group meeting next week. I am in the process of starting my new life. Just can't get past this emotional part. Not sure if it is happy tears or that regret feeling and to not get it done. Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Well the best advice I can give you is to be happy and remember it is all worth it in the end. The first few weeks will be rough healing and adjusting your life style and eating habits. If something does not agree with you, don't think it will always be that way. YOur taste buds change, which can suck but be a good thing. Everyone is different, but from what I have seen here, people generally lose weight in the same portions thru out the first year. The heavyer you are, the faster you will lose it the first few months then it slows down and thats when the real work begins. I have lost 120lbs down from 304lbs and my surgery was on August 17, 2010. So I want to wish you good luck and keep your chin up. Turn those tears into happy tears, not everyone has an opportunity like us to have this surgery, and not many have the courage to do it.

There are a few people with complications from WLS, but there are many, many more who have had no serious issues after surgery.  You do need to prepare for the changes, especially your new relationship with food.

Read everything here, good and bad, so you are as prepared as possible.  the support group should be very helpful.

Thank you all for the couraging words. I am happy and this is my new life. I know everyone is different and our bodies work in the way it is suppose to. I have such bad luck at life in general that I just worry. I am thinking positive and smiling. I am going to have a new body and be a new person.

I completely understand the emotion roller coaster. I have surgery set for August 25th, and even with months and months of support group meetings required by my Insurance provider prior to being approved for surgery, I'm still a bundle of nerves!

Hang in there. We are doing the right thing, and there is no doubt about it. People talk about the statistics of problems with WLS, tell them to compare it to the statistics of being obese. The later will far outweigh the former!

I look forward to tracking our progress together and making our way up to the 'losers bench'

Write down all the reasons you decided to have surgery- write down some goals- write down some hopes you have for life after weight loss- Take pictures of yourself at your highest weight and pictures of your family if they are overweight

I did all that and put it in a little book long before I had surgery in case I got scared, nervous or was having a bad day after surgery.

I think this makes so much since. I am going to make a book like this, because i am getting nervous as ever. My surgery is coming up on the 20th and although, I used to come on here and wish to God that i was in one of their shoes that had an upcoming or recently approved surgery, I am having second thaughts and nervous and scared and happy all at the same time. Definately a good idea tho :)
