So tomorrow I will be 3 months out and eating isn't enjoyable or pain free still. I can feel the food sitting in my pouch wether its salad or steak. I'm chewing really well and even if I drink too fast I feel pain...is this normal at 3 months out?

I think it's time to see your doctor. I'm not as far out as you , but it seems that you shouldn't be feeling pain when you eat.

This may not help, but "normal" is in the eye of the beholder. Have you had a follow up surgeon visit yet? I would definitely ask my doctor because you should be able to eat at least some foods without any pain by 3 months out.

However, that said, steak and salad can be challenging foods at 3 months. Many of us waited almost a year before tackling salad. Steak, while very dense protein, requires MUCH chewing and VERY small bites.

My dr.'s overall philosophy is that most eating problems occur when we eat too fast, eat too much, or eat something we are not ready for. While this may or may not apply to you - I think it's time to describe these issues to your dr.

Till then, go slow and be gentle. At 3 months you are still in the very early stages - your body may be in revolt because it's still healing.

What protein sources are you using to get your protein requirement in?

Agreed with Donna.  The only thing I'm wondering is if you are measuring your food or allowing your "full factor" to dictate when you stop eating?

Try eating smaller portions.  See if that helps.

Oh - and does your Dr have you on a PPI?  If I don't take mine my pouch hurts.. feels irritated.  I take a dissolvable Prevacid.  Works great.

pain or pressure? Because depending on what I eat (almost all meats) I can feel them go down.. I can feel the pressure of it.. which I hate, but it's not painful it's just blah

sry guys i typed this on break at school...it isnt exactly PAIN but it is that im aware of the food i just ate. i can feel it sitting in my pouch almost. I eat thin sliced cold cuts on my salad, thin slices of steak, moist grilled chicken, edamame, cheeses, turkey pepporoni, and of course my protein shake in the morning for my 31 grams of protein to start the day. I was taking 1 pepcid a day to prevent ulcers but i spoke to my surgeon because i was experiencing nawing pain from acid and he upped the pepcid to 2x a day. it has helped but not completely cured and tomorrow will be 2 weeks since the change and i need to update her. i have not thrown up once and have gotten food stuck only 2x. I am not eating more than 1/2-3/4 a cup at a time. thanks for caring!!

Truthfully, anytime I eat until I am 'full' I have an uncomfortable feeling. I don't know if you could call it pain but I am very aware of the food going down, sitting there, etc. Somedays I wake up and know I am just not going to be able to eat much at all. I think its all just part of it.

I haven't tried steak, but I do eat salad with no problems.

I was told by my doctor not to try stea****il at least 6 months as it is really hard to digest.  Lettuce is also hard to digest but this depends on the person.  You may want to give both a break for awhile and try other items like fish.  I still have issues with chicken unless its really, really moist.  I have to rely on fish now and I am not a big fan of fish so I eat the really mild fish (that tastes like chicken) like tilapia.

My doc also told me I was a 4-biter.  I can only get in about 4 bites per meal which sucks but I'm finding that it depends on the food I eat and each month I can eat a little more. It is possible you may be eating too much.

Are you drinking while eating?
