Potted Meat and Mushed up Vienna Sausages and HASH????

My sister in law got lap band many many years ago. She said she was able to eat potted meats?????????????

I am on purree stage and have been so stinking afraid to try ANY meat of ANY kind...... I am not a fan of going the baby food route either.... that just looks gross.

I have been pretty much eating soft cheeses, oatmeal, mashed potatoes, soft scrambled eggs, protein shakes ,yogart, refried beans. I am just to worried about going the meat route in the blender.

As for the Roast beef hash same issue too scared to even try that.

Are any of those even good options for purreed?????? Should I not listen to her and move on  the way I have been going?

I don't think it's the healthiest thing to eat - processed meat - high sodium and fats.

That being said - when I was desperate for protein, I did buy a product called "deviled ham" which is a ham spread - thought I might could eat it with crackers.  However, during that stage, my taste buds just couldn't stomach it!

Try boiling chicken and pureing it in a blender with broth - it looks like crap, but tastes ok.

How about some Tuna whipped up in a magic bullet, or canned chicken with some mayo, onion, and pickle?  Blend until its puree.  i tried some today and it was great.  This week Im going to do some shrimp and lobster salad too.

First let me say, potted meat, ewwwww!

Second, you cannot compare your RNY food stages with that of your LB sister's.
I don't think potted meat or even roast beef hash is a good food choice and probably not in your plan. Read your labels and stick to low carb, high protein foods.

I have to agree EWWWWW to potted meat and mushed vienna sausages..... the hash.... well that is a southern food staple.

I cant have seafood (shrimp,crab lobster).... have an allergy.

Deviled ham? doesnt sound appealing but in a crunch might work.

I didnt think about the tuna.... will look at doing that tonight. 

And you are right I cant compare her LAP to my RNY I just thought it was ODD that she did those meats.

I am 1 month out and I was scared to eat meats too! I needed to get more protein into my body so I tried rotisserie chicken breast (I made it in my Ronco thingy). let me tell you that that one piece of chicken lasted me 3 days! Just because I didn't want to over eat and hurt myself. Try small portions and then gradually ease your way up to 2 ozs (2 ozs is what my surgeon says is a good portion size for protein).

 I am still pre-op ****il next week  ) but have some WLS books with recipes for the puree stage for meats.  I can PM you and type up a list of the recipe titles and if anything stands out to you I will be glad to PM you the recipes.  Just let me know if you do....

One option is to slowly and gradually add it in with your cream soups.  Get some canned chicken breast or grilled chicken breast and chop it up real finely and sprinkle a Tbsp or two into your cream soup until you are more comfortable eating meat directly.  The soup will help it slide down easily if it is chopped real small.

My grandma used to make a ham spread where she would put the thin deli sliced ham in the blender and chop up well then add some mayo, a tsp or so of yellow mustard, season to taste and mix with a pulse or two of the blender.  I have seen WLS recipes doing the same with shrimp and tuna and chicken as well.

Also Check out www.bariatricfoodie.com   NIK and her friend have some AWESOME recipes on there. I am pre op and have tried some of them and they are good. Worth looking into. the recipes are on the right side and they are part of a blog but it is also worth the read.

 In the puree stage I was eating canned tuna (usually with mayo and whatever else you like), or canned salmon mixed with ff cream cheese and a bit of relish, or the usual cottage cheeses, eggs, block cheese, ricotta, etc etc. There are options out there!

What the heck is potted meat? Is that like Spam?! It sounds very... processed and full of fat, preservatives and sodium... I would steer clear of it, whatever it is.

It sounds like you're doing well with protein rich soft foods. The first meats I introduced back into my diet early on were shrimp and salmon. Costco has great, fresh lime marinated shrimp in their meat dept, as well as great fresh fish options. I can eat any meats now, but had trouble with chicken and tuna initially because they were too dry.  Add something to moisten the meat early on and take small bites to see how you tolerate it.
