Tasting blood.....
If it was me I would be very concerned about that you could a bleed on the inside of you pouch. If you cant get anyone to call you back if the office is close go to the office if its not and it keeps happening go to the E.R. I dont mean to scare you but my sister in law's pouch busted open and she almost died. Hers happened two years after surgery because she had to much acid build up I had my surgery on April 12 2011 and I never tasted blood. Not even right after. Please dont wait to long
I had to go on blood thinner (Coudinin??) and I could taste blood a lot during my first month. They had to test me several weeks to get the right dosage. And although the nurse said that it wasn't possible for me to "taste" blood, I knew I did and insisted that it be checked again. I'm not a nurse but we know our own bodies. I hope you are o.k. and get it checked out very soon.
Dr thinks I have developed an ulcer possibly. Going to see gastro dr tomorrow morning.... I am not hurting really just very sore once again upper left side and the tasting blood.... he said he is not overly concerned because this can sometimes happen. He said if the soreness gets worse or I start SEEING blood to come straight to the er. Otherwise be there in the morning for gastro to scope me..... just my luck.... can I cry now?
Are you prone to ulcers? It seems to me if that was a concern he would of at least called you in something. Did he put you on anything for acid control post-op like Protonix, Nexium, Prevacid? I have 3 ulcers and I have NEVER tasted blood. To me that would be sign of a bleed. What's your stool look like? I know that might be TMI, but if there is blood in your pouch it would make your stool look black and tarry. Kind of like it would look if you took Pepto Bismol. That means the blood would be digested. Have you vomitted or anything recently? The reason I ask is because I got so sick one time I vomitted hard enough to get a small tear in my esophagas. This was pre-op, but I did taste blood then.
The scope isn't bad at all. I remember them telling the nurse to give me the happy meds and then I woke up in recovery. It was a piece of cake. You're less than a month out of surgery so the upper left side pain sounds kind of normal. I'm 2 months out and I'm still a bit sore. That's where they do most of the moving of our insides and the biggest tools go in. Our muscles are pretty pissed off for a while afterward.
I hope you feel better soon. Keep us posted.
