A lot of it may be yeast infection.. so making sure the area is dry and stays dry is important.
Using OTC yeast cream (fungus creams) helps a lot. The nyostatin powder controls the yeast.
document the rash. Take a lot of pictures.

Ive had this problme forever, even pre surgery and its very annoying. I know it will only get worse now that im losing weight. In addition to the red raw skin, I get cysts from time to time that are painful and disgusting and fairly large. I guess theyre actually boils? I have to drain them to get relief but MAN does it hurt. I have noticed less of those since surgery tho. sorry if TMI...and its embarrassing

newtintn, I have the same problem with the cysts.  Mostly in underarm and groin area and it's gotten worse the more weight I gained. A dermatologist diagnosed hidradenitis suppurativa. Per website: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/hidradenitissuppurativa.html

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic disease of a type of sweat gland. It can occur in one or multiple areas of your body. HS usually develops in your armpits, groin, and anal area. It causes long-term skin inflammation and can be painful. WARNING GROSS STUFF COMING UP....

Symptoms include: Blackheads and red, tender bumps, called abscesses. The abscesses get bigger, break open, and leak pus;Tunnels that form under the skin between abscesses;Scarring

No one knows what causes HS. It is more common in women, African Americans, and people who have had acne. It usually starts after the teenage years. Treatments include antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medicines, and sometimes surgery. Losing weight and wearing loose clothing can help, too.

They are miserable to deal with. Here's to hoping the weight loss will help!

Which ever choice you make for treatment, be sure that you let your primary care physician know whenever you do need to treat - that way, if and when your PCP or you decide that enough is enough and you want that pannus gone, you will have documentation to present to your insurance company.

I'm dealing with this right now. It's gotten worse the past couple of months.

I'm sore and it's painful, and lately I've noticed an odour, no matter how much powder or body spray I put on after a shower. It's really bothering me.

If there is an odor, you should see your physician and ask for a prescription powder called Nystatin.  It is an anti-fungal/antibiotic.

This would make me run to the doctor.  If there is a foul odor, you need to have it looked at. Also, I would say that Neosporin is a great product to use.  Before you go to bed at night, clean and completely dry the area and apply a thin layer of Neosporin on the whole affected area.  By morning, it will feel and look much better.  Then apply your powder after your shower and though drying.  Do this for a couple of nights and see if it clears up then stop until next time.  This is for AFTER you find out about the odor.  And take pics for insurance as well.

Before I had plastic surgery, I used shapewear to keep the skin up and prevent it from rubbing against itself.

Hi Laura - what suggestion do you have for the most comfortable shapewear? Thanks.
