A first....almost 3 years out
It will be 3 years in October for me since surgery. I have been very fortunate to have never vomited.....ugh. Last night I dry heaved on and off for hours. There was nothing there to come up. I am better this morning but very sore.
I mistakenly thought that I had lost the ability to throw up. Live and learn!

In 5 years I've vomited exactly once. My son bbq'd some meat that he heavily seasoned. I ate some and felt ill about 30 minutes later. I ended up vomiting. In inquired about dinner, and found out it was some meat I had told him to throw out--it had been in the fridge for over a week--the meat was spoiled. Many time during my early months I felt like I had to throw up. I even put my fingers down my throat and only ended up with dry heaves. I've heard hundreds of post ops at support groups discuss this issue, and they too are unable to throw up 99% of the time. But, as the saying goes, never say never with RNY. My understanding of your post was you had the dry heaves (most common with RNY), yet failed to throw up (most common). DAVE

Yeah, I hadn't eaten in several hours. I just didn't feel well and the thought of eating made me feel sick. I think that if I had eaten then I would have lost it.
You are right....never say never!
