Yikes!  I am not even sure if anyone can answer this, since no one know 'for sure' if the unprotected sex resulted in a pregnancy.

I will tell you, my husband and I had unprotected sex, really did not want a pregnancy to result, I took the plan B and did not end up pregnant, but like I said, you really won't know for sure.

I did not ask my surgeon or dr about absorption though, so I don't know if the plan B worked, or if I just got lucky naturally.

I have the Mirena IUD now and love it.  Barely any periods to speak of, a day of spotting basically, and no cramps either.

No judgement here, I am happily married and got caught up in the moment.  It happens, at least you were using a condom.  How can anyone judge you for something that wasn't your fault.

Good luck, hon, I know it can be a heart wrenching decision.

So stressful! But look, it happens. You should know first that condoms are only about 85% effective to start with so, I would suggest a better method of birth control if you're sexually active. As for the absorption- wow, no idea. I would imagine that you may be a better judge of that depending on how quickly your stools move (gross but does play into how quickly things move through you). You certainly did take the medicine quickly and hopefully, you won't be pregnant. However, if you are, cross that bridge when you get to it. I have a friend who got pregnant right at the 6 month mark. She and the baby are both healthy and happy. Take a deep breath and I'll keep you in my thoughts. Take care!

I had spoken to my doctor about malabsorption of meds. He said it probably wouldn't happen. He said that you don't absorb meds in your stomach anyway and the amount of intestine bypassed is not enough to cause malabsorption of meds. He also said that if anything the Meds may be too much since my body weight is dropping. I would say this, if you can absorb hormones from birth control pills, you should be able to absorb plan B. How about googling progesterone estrogen and the like, and the oral absorption after RNY? Either way call the surgeons office tomorrow and ask. No one will judge you and you will feel better and sleep easier!

I've never taken plan B, but I will tell you I got pregnant while on birth control after having RNY. Apparently losing weight makes us women VERY fertile. Fortunately I was just about at my 18 month mark post op, so luckily I had no problems with my pregnancy. My daughter was born small, only 6 lbs. 1.7 oz not sure if thats because of my surgery or not, the doctor didnt see her weight being a problem, and she was perfectly healthy. My birth control was prescribed by my family doctor at the time, so I'm not sure if the surgeon would have put me on something different. I was on Ortho. If your not pregnant, be sure to ask the doctor about some form of birth control.  They also say use 2 forms of birth control right after.

I am now going on 5 years post op in August, and I have a beautiful 2 1/2 year old daughter.

Good luck to you

Hi-

I am close in age to you and understand that sometimes these things happen. I took the morning after pill once before after an incident with my boyfriend at the time (who is now my husband). I have actually wondered post op what would happen with pills like that you really need to work 100%. I wonder if you may want to call your obgyn and see if he or she would recommend up-ing the dose. It can be very very dangerous to carry a child so close after surgery. My surgeon had a serious talk with me about the extreme risks to the baby if I were to get pregnant.

You mentioned getting on birth control. We are HYPER fertile after WLS. I think you should absolutely make an appt for a prescription sooner than later. I use the nuvaring and absolutely love it. You don't have to worry about remembering another pill everyday and there is no risk of malabsorption as it isn't digested. Even though I am married now and on the nuvaring, I still make my husband use a condom. At least for the next eighteen months to two years until we are out of the woods with not being able to nourish a fetus properly. The time will come for us to have a family (we are only two month newly weds) but until then we need to be extra careful. An oops for a normal person can be unfortunate but for those of us losing weight rapidly, the results can be disasterous...

Best of luck with everything. USUALLY these things are more scary than anything else and I am sure everything will work out but certainly be open and talk to your doctors about this soon.

I am not sure about the answer to your question either, but to add in my two scents, I was not absorbing my Birth Control Pill properly after surery and had to change to the Ring, which works much much better.

I would definitely look into going into some sort of Birth Control ASAP for sure. :)
