Day after surgery questions

Yesterday around 11:45, I had my surgery. Everything went very well! I do have two questions though:
1. my incisions are all taped, and my belly button has a lot of blood just sitting under the taped area. I wanted to make sure this is normal. My surgeon told me to come back on Thursday and he would take the tapes off. Is this how other people's surgery went?
2. I have felt bloated and swollen since yesterday. Is that normal after surgery from the liquids and such?
Any help would be great!

My incisions were taped. The doctor didn't take them off he said they would eventually come off and told me not to pull them off. Bloated and swollen is typical. I didn't have my belly button taped, sorry. The incisions I had had a little dark blood underneath the tape. This was my experience.

Same for me. Mine eventually came off in the shower. When I went and saw my doctor about a week and a half out he pulled the few that were still stuck off. I can't remember how long I felt bloated but I know it was quite a while. I never even released any gas in the hospital. Then when I got home it was like someone popped a balloon!

My incisions were not taped so they bled a few times when I walked in the hospital. But they closed nicely by day 2 or 3. I had a LOT of bruising around my belly button. I posted photos with my blog on the thinnertimes forum if you want to take a look. My bruising is now finally almost gone and I am almost 4 weeks out from surgery.

I felt really bloated and swollen for a couple of weeks. I just wore button up pants a couple of days ago for the first time. I have also just started lying on my side and stomach a little within the past few days. I didn't start tooting out the gas they pump into your body cavity for several days. It takes a while for it to diffuse into your intestines so it can come out. But be sure to walk a lot and sit up when you can and that will help get the gas moving. Walk, walk, walk; sip, sip, sip; nap, nap nap. It's the best thing for you.

Good luck!!

My surgery was Monday (6/20). My incisions were taped too. I have a taped incision just above my belly button as well. That incision should be fine. My surgeon told me to leave the tape be and it will eventually go away on it's own.

Feeling bloated and swollen is totally normal. Just walk, walk, sip, sleep, repeat. The more you walk the more the gas will dispell and you will feel much better. I walk every half hour to an hour and it helps so much. It also helps start good habits for exercise. If you lie around too long you'll feel like crap. lol. If you're tired - nap. Don't worry about if it's too early or too late. You're recovering and your body heals best when you sleep. Sip all day long to help get your fluids in because that's hard in the beginning. I'm at the end of my first week and I still can't get in all my liquids and protein, but I'm getting better at it.

You are totally fine I'm 7 months out now, the steri strips / tape will all come off on it on, all will be gone within 2 weeks.
Bloating ? YES! I looked pregnant when I first came home. Walk often, even if only for 5-10 minutes at a time, you have to get the gas to moving and you don't want it to settle in your left shoulder, mine did also sip your water often, dehydration can happen quickly so sip sip sip! Also sugar free Popsicles are a God send early on! They count as your fluids.
Another thing, come here often, find support in person and online, you will have tons of questions, you will want to brag and share and take a lot of pictures, you may not want them now, but you will.
A journal and or blog is helpful to most of us, it's up to you whether or not to share
Good luck && welcome to the losers bench ! )

 Thanks for all the responses!
My doctor told me only one ounce every fifteen minutes, so I feel as though getting in liquids will be very difficult. It's good to know that my experience is pretty much normal. :) I thank God that I did not have any complications! This was my first surgery, and it didn't seem nearly as painful as I expected. As far as the bloating goes, I'll just make sure to stay off the scales until some of it goes away lol.

I just had my surgery on Thursday.

My incisions were not taped, they were glued. I am guessing that they could also be taped, depending on the surgeon's preference. I woud follow the dr's orders and just leave them alone until he is ready to take them off.

The bloating is probably from the gas they pumped into your belly. It may cause some shoulder pain. I have been dealing with that. I just started passing gas this morning (day 3 post op). I feel much better now. I also have started using the Gas X strips that were recommended and they seem to have helped too.

I started to pass gas on my third day and started feeling much better. walk, walk walk is always good. It is always good to have a back up plan if its raining out so for me now i am able to I use my exercise bike often. The weather been crappy here so I am glad I have that to use. make sure you sip sip sip. even me being in my 6th week post op have to keep on sipping the fluids.
