my vitamin D is becoming low(it was low prior to surgery) and the doctor told me to take 2,00o IU's. I know we only absorb certian types so if anyone can steer me in the right direction it would be appreciated. thanks!

I took 50,000 UI dry D3 per day for a few months.  Then retest.

If you are low - the 2000 will not do much to increase the level.
normally, most of us try to take close to 10,000 IU per day.

My D is high now ((>120), so I am planning not to take any for 2 months and then start with 50,000 IU once a week.  But I also live in the south and I am outdoors at least 30 min to 1 hr every other day.

Please don't do that. It'll drop like a stone. If you were doing 50k per day, cut in half first. Stopping is the same as running out of gas. You'll go right back to where you started.

Also, honestly, if the sun worked, why do people in the sun zones buy D3-50? Nope, they stop wearing hats and sun screens when they are diagnosed.

The sun may deliver D, which the skin converts to D3, but for some reason, the body really doesn't hold onto it long enough to be of therapeutic value. It's kinda like if you are iron anemic, the doc tells you to cook your liver in an iron skillet?

REally? If you were anemic, an iron skillet isn't going to keep your heart beating. Same concept, old wive's tale, in that a bit of sun may start your melanoma, but it won't save your bones.

It's kinda like getting your diabetes under control, getting good numbers for a few days and saying, "Ok, now strop the treatment that made you go into remission"!

They do this with vites all the time. Finally get ppl out of the hole and say, OK, you're fixed, stop doing what made you well.

Makes me crazy.

My D was 15 pre op I have been taking 50,000 IU of dry D3 from Vitalady and my 3 month labs just came in and my D is now 107, I am now cutting back to 50,000 IU 4 times a week.  2,000 won't do much of anything.  good luck!

I agree--the 50,000 3 times a week from vitalady.com took me from 26 to 93 in 5 months

This is good to know. I am pre op and my vitamin D was 10.  (This is not the first time it's been low.)  I am taking 50,000 ius once a week and 3,000 iu everyday.  They are testing my blood once more before surgery to see if it is any higher.  Thanks for the info
