I had surgery May 6th and I want to go swimming in Mullett Lake.  Would this be safe?

I'm only 6 days out, but my surgeon specifically discussed swimming with me at discharge due to the time of year. She said two weeks, but I would just check with your surgeon. I would imagine you would be all set if you had Surgery May 6th.....you are almost two months out. Happy swimming! :)

I am wondering the same thing.

We live in Florida, so I would love to take my kids to the beach or springs before summer is over. I know right now is too soon, but would like to know when it IS safe.

I was released to swim at 3 weeks post op. As soon as your incisions are healed over, you should be good.

I was released at 2 weeks out . My surgeon said no baths or swimming until wounds were healed over. At my 2wk check doc said it looked really good and got released for baths and swimming. Just becareful of side cramps , i got one . Its just you using a few muscles that are healing ,, kinda take it easy for a bit. But other than that I was off to pool and beach land !!!!!!!

Make sure everything is well healed. You wouldnt want to pick up MRSA at a public pool which is a possibility if woulnds are open.

I was originally told 6 weeks, but last week my surgeon gave me the go ahead at 2 1/2 weeks because my incisions healed up so quickly.  I think this is an individual case by case thing depending on the healing of your incisions.   I had my first swim in the pool yesteday and it was fabulous.

Tomorrow I am going scuba diving and can't wait!

Good luck!

Um, sorry to throw this in, but scuba diving sounds a bit different from swimming There's greater internal pressure on your body. Have you checked into this?

Yes,  I talked with my doctor extensively about it last week.  He is an avid diver too.  I have been diving for 20 years,  so know that it is completely different than swimming.. ;-)   I was cleared to do shallow water diving, (under 30 ft) which has the least pressure, and will gradually increase my depth as the months move along.

Thanks for the post!
