I am almost a yr out from surgery and my hair loss has not stopped yet.   When did it stop and get better for you?  My hair was already thin and fine but now it is just see through..aweful.  I have to wear it up everyday because it looks horrible because so much is gone.  I take 2 pills of Biotin every day and have since December but that is obviously not helping.  Any other suggestions?  How about prenatal vitatmins?  I am up for any suggestions as my hair is so dried out and barely there any more that I am desperate.
I also only wa**** every other day now.

I use rogain for women every day. and I take bioten.  If my protein intake is low my hair falls out.
It is a life long battle that comes and goes.  To make it all even better (NOT) I have female pattern baldness.

I take Zinc everyday and it seems to be helping.  I am not losing so much hair everyday.

How much protein do you get each day?  What was your vitamin A level last time you had labs done?

I probably am not getting all my proteins each day so I told myself yesterday that I will drink 1 protein drink every day and see if that helps.  I go to the Dr at the end of the month so I will def get him to check my Vit A.  I am also going to go to the store and get some zinc (is there a thing as too much Kelly and if you do take it how much should we take?)
I keep thinking about cutting my hair but wow I don't want to but starting to think it is going to be a must.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and I surely hope mine stops at 12 mths because I am just a couple weeks from that.

It's probably the protein, if you're not getting enough.  I had a really hard time getting enough protein for the first six months or so and I lost a TON of hair.

I don't know much about zinc.  I assume there is such a thing as too much but with most vitamins, it's kind of  hard to actually get too much.  I would just buy a low dose and not worry about it.  You can have your doc check your level at the same time he's checking your vitamin A.

I have spoken about this on a couple of occasions but will, again, mention that what it took for my hair loss to stop was a good haircut.

My hair was falling out by the handfuls until, as a result of a bad haircut, I was subsequently forced to cut my hair really short.

While I was pretty pissed at the time, I have since come to appreciate the haircut situation because the hair loss stopped as a result.

I have no scientific basis for this, but what I think is that my hair was traumatized by the anesthesia, the surgical process, and the drastic and sudden change in my body chemistry, and the result was hair breakage and loss.

Once I cut off the damaged hair, new growth has been the result and I've had no further problems.

Again, don't know if there is any basis for my theory, or whether it was just a coincidence, but for me I am convinced that the haircut was what was necessary to promote healthy hair growth.

I have been taking biotin, zinc and silica.. These vitamins have really been helpul in slowing down my hair loss. I am 6 months out and I started shedding right at 4 months, even my hair texture was changing. Hope this helps.

I am 17 months out and just in the past 2 or 3 months did I finally notice my hair starting to get thicker...at least when I grab it all to make a ponytail, it now feels liek there is something there!  My hair loss continued until I was about 11 or 12 months out.  I get all my protien and vitamins, but I did not take Biotin as I do not believe it actually helps.

I havent had my surgery yet so you may not take my advice. Washing the hair everyday isn't a good thing to begin with. It strips the hair and scalp of essential oils. Unless you are one of those types of people who use a bunch of products to style your hair washing your hair 2 to 3 times a week should suffice.

I had to start taking biotin because of STRESS. Yep stress was making my hair fall out. Huge clumps. My hair used to be thick and now it is a medium thickness.

As for the prenatal question, that would be something you should talk to your surgeon and or doctor about, they may have another idea.
