3 month labs - High Ferritin
So here's the deal:
Ferritin, Serum 227 ng/mL normal - 13-150
Vitamin D, 25-hydroxy 30.4 ng/mL normal 32-100
Everything else fell within range. I take 60mg of iron as Ferronyl with 500mg of vitamin C. I currently take 5000IU of Vitamin D per day.
I know I need to increase vit d but by how much? And what do I do about the ferritin being high? Is it an issue or ????
Here's the rest of it. I know you guys know more about this. I guess I should wait to hear from the surgeon's office but I'm not trusting them a whole lot right now.
glucose, serum 91 mg/dL normal - 65-99
BUN 14 mg/dL normal - 6-20
Creatinine, serum 0.71 mg/dL normal 0.57-1.00
Sodium, Serum 139 mmol/L normal - 135-145
Potassium, Serum 4.1 mmol/L normal - 3.5-5.2
Chloride, serum 104 mmol/L normal - 97-108
Carbon Dioxide, total 20 mmol/L normal - 20-32
Calcium, serum 9.8 mg/dL normal - 8.7-10.2
Protein, total, serum 6.9 g/dL normal - 6.0-8.5
Albumin, serum 4.3 g/dL normal - 3.5-5.5
globulin, total 2.6 g/dL normal - 1.5-4.5
Vitamin b12 536 pg/mL normal - 211-946
Folate, serum 14.9 ng/mL normal >3.0
But your B12 is also low. we want the b12 to be close 10 1000, and not 500. I would sugest you start taking some more.
Vit D - apparently 5000 a day is not enough. For a while I took 50,000 IU 4-6 times a week. My D is nopw 120. So I am cutting it down to 1 a week. To increase - you may want to start taking D 50,000 daily for a few weeks and then repeat testing.
Your proteins - you want them to be more then 7... again - you may choose to increase the proteins in your diet.
How about B1? and iron saturation %? that may be really helpful.

The only other things on my labs were:
bilirubin, total .5 mg/dL normal - 0-1.2
alkaline phosphatase, s 60IU/L normal - 25-150
AST (SGOT) 22 IU/L normal - 0-40
ALT (SGPT) 23 IU/L normal 0-40
I have no idea what those things are so if it helps .....
This was blood work done at my surgeon's office. If you know of something else I should have done, I can have my pcp order it. He's super good about working with me.
Thank you again!!!
Your D is horribly low. Below 80, you're at risk for things like osteoporosis, heart disease and some forms of cancer. I'd order the 50,000 IU D3 from vitalady.com and take one a day for a month or two, then test again.
Your B12 is also very low. Below 550, people generally get tired and depressed. Ideally it would be around 1000.
I'm wondering where the rest of your labs are? PTH, vitamin A, thiamin, zinc, copper?

I'll get the 50,000IU from vitalady and triple what I"m taking now until I can get it here.
I'll talk to my pcp about the b-12. Maybe he'll prescribe shots or the nasal spray. I'll also triple what I"m taking now too.
This was all that was ordered and it was done in my surgeon's office. What else should be done? My pcp's office wasn't willing to do the blood draw there because they had a patient a couple years ago pass out and had to be sent to the hospital because they took like 15 vials of blood. They didn't want to do that with me. But then the blood draw at the surgeon's office was only 2 vials. I can have any sort of blood work I need done at the local hospital though so if I need it, I'll get it.
Thank you again, Kelly. You're help is really appreciated.
I do the B12 shots and I think they're really convenient. I know some people really don't like shots, though.
I'll give you the list of all the labs I get done. And it's usually about 15 or 16 tubes of blood.
