Tell me again that it's get easier
It really does get easier. I also love going out for ice cream, so I did a search of nutritional values of 3 different large chain ice cream shops and found that each one had sugar/fat free options. Last week I stopped at Cold Stone Creamery with a friend and had a small container with unsweetened fruit. I never finished it, but it was fun to be out and have some semblance of normalcy in my life. I also do this for restaurants and just plan ahead. As for bbqing, I made the standard fare and put a little aside to make low sugar/low fat recipes. Kraft has a light bbq sauce which was great on chicken I used light mayo in a small amount of potato salad and had a fat free dressing on salad.
Right now it seems hard because you're moving away from your comfort zone and establishing new habits. Like they say, change can be hard. I'm almost 3 months out and down 65 lbs since the RNY and I feel so much better than I did. You'll find that you'll be able to do more and be less focused on food based activities once you adopt this new lifestyle and lose weight. Try to think of what you've gained rather than what you lost and I think you'll start to see the positive aspects of your decision.
Best Wishes for your Journey
