pills, gelcaps, capsules??? long - vent
first off big hugs! I am so sorry you are frustrated. My surgeon told me the only pill he wanted me to take in a capsule form was the multi vitamins I get them from GNC and they go down good. The others he said were small enough to swallow and break down but the multi vitamin was harder too. I know others take pill multis but for me it didnt work I got bad stomach pains and very sick then i switched to the capsules and no probs I would say the hell with crushing etc and take your pills. Good luck hun
Yup--I've swallowed all of them, including Vicodin horse pills, since day 2 post-op! You may want to try zyrtec--generic OTC is cheap ($15 for a YEAR'S supply at BJ's!) very small pills and for me works better than allegra!
The only thing I've ever had stuck was a huge monster multi-vitamin from vitacost (NOT vitalady--her stuff's small!) and I have yet to take another one of those!

Pills. Tablets? Most will melt in salivia-water. If it is film coated, snap in half. Enteric coated (like an M&M), ask a pharmacist
Capsules ARE gel caps. Gelatin capsules. Gelatin melts in saliva, no****er. Depends on what's inside whether it will work for you or not
SOFT GELS are the ones we DON'T use. The gelatin will melt, but we don't absorb fats or oils to any reliable degree.
I am RNY and we never used chewables or crushed pills. Unless you have special vomiting issues, there is no reason not to swallow pills. Roll them around in saliva a moment before you swallow to be sure.
You can take a single dry Vit D3 pill in 50,000 IU, very tiny, melts in your mouth. Take them every other day.
I'm sorry, your plan would have me about 75 lbs heavier than I am, had I followed it. I can send you mine if you email me (not PM). [email protected]

P.S. My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.
Thanks, Michelle.
My PCP said that some prescription capsules are made of a plastic type material to do a sort of time release thing. The one I take doesn't seem to be. I just swallowed it tonight with no troubles. My allegra I broke in half because it is film coated, like you said. I didn't have any issues at all. And I KNOW when that stuff kicks in, lol.
My vitamins are either gel caps or chewables so those aren't an issue. It's the prescriptions.
I ordered the d3 from your site today along with a bunch of protein samples.
I will email you asap!!! Thanks for the help!!

Wow, I didn't know about the soft gels. I take 50,000 U of Vitamin D which was prescribed before my RNY because I have osteoporosis from early menopause. My surgeon never asked if it was a soft gel. I haven't taken it since surgery (it is prescribed biweekly) but I am due to take it. I see my surgeon on thursday for a follow-up (surgery was 3 weeks ago). Should I ask him to prescribe it in a different form? This is all so new to me. I am also prescribed B12 via injection once a month (also prescribed b4 RNY). Don't know if that will need to be changed too.
