so i thought i'd be happy with a goal weight of 127 lbs. however i keep seeing people who are a bit taller than me or my height with goal weights of 105, 110 or 115 so im wondering should my goal weight be lower  cuz of rebound weight or sumthin

Personally I think setting a goal weight that's too low is setting yourself up for frustration and possibly failure.  Why not start with the goal of a normal BMI and when you reach that decide if you want to make a new goal.   Plug your height into the BMI calculator on this site and enter weights until one comes up normal .. there's your goal.  :)

That is, of course, just my opinion.

I'm with Judi.  A normal BMI is a good goal--for me, at 144# and 5'5", my BMI is right around 24.  144# is also the high end of the healthy weight range for my height.  I saw a post not long ago that stated some staggering low statistic of how many people actually get to their goal or lose 100% of their excess weight--something like 7%.  This is also an emotional journey, so be realistic with yourself and work with your surgeon and/or PCP for the best goal weight for your stature.  It really helps to have their input!

with my ds, its on auto pilot,  Im moving to my goal of 162 calculated by my surgeon slowly and on schedule;  with out diet the body knows where it wants to be.

I have always used the goal weight that the CDC shows on their BMI calculator for me as a normal Bmi. I use the higher end of that range because if I meet that goal it will be a huge success and I can continue to set  mini goals if I believe I need to lose more weight.

Setting a hard target goal wt right after surgery may not be wise. Set mini goals every few weeks. Follow your surgeon's protocol.  Keep hydrated, take all of your supplements, track your lab reports to make sure you vitamin levels are ok, exercise.  It may lose all of your wt within a few months like some do. But it's more likely it will take you over a year to lose you max wt.  Be advised though, some wt gain is likely once you reach your lowest wt.  I started out a 365, and it took me 24 months to get to my lowest wt of 186.  But I felt weak at that wt and my complexion looked like I was ready for a casket. I feel better and my complexion looks normal at my current wt of 205.  I'm happy at this wt.  DAVE

Numbers on the scale are SO arbitrary. Set more useful goals using health and fitness markers instead, for example.

If you MUST have a scale number, set a range, not a specific number. Ditto for clothing sizes.

Set small goals and focus on your health.  Your body will do what it wants to do so IMO focusing on a set number may cause you much emotional distress that isn't necessary.

I started out by setting a goal weight, then decided to go with BMI.  After discussing things with my personal trainer, who loathes my addiction to numbers, i have decided to set a body-fat percentage to shoot for.  Coincidentally, when i do the calculations, my goal body-fat puts me within 2 pounds of my initial weight goal.  LOL
Highest weight - 224   Surgery weight - 201   Current weight - 155
Goal - (surgeon) 155; (personal) 138-bodyfat 20%

My only suggestion is to not be shy to go a little lower than your goal to give you a little bounce back and remember your ultimate goal is HEALTHY!

All the best!
