how to choose a goal weight?
I'm not sure how tall you are but I'm 5'2 (and a half or so) with a starting weight about 234. I originally thought 150 would work for me and then moved that to 135 (upper normal BMI range) and am now in the 125-130 range depending on the day etc. I can't even imagine me weighing less than 120! I'm to big boned for that, and I would litterally be skin and bone. I was told by my dr. not to get less than 125 as that is pretty "skin and bones" for my build. I would shoot for a "normal" BMI then see how you feel. If you think you want to lose some more than maybe figure 5 pound increments? I do like the idea of making smaller mini-goals and that's what I did as I was losing so I didn't have a huge goal I was working on. The smaller goals really helped keep me focused and not feel like I wasn't accomplishing anything. Also setting a goal to low could make you feel like you are "failing" if you never reach that goal.

I pulled a number out my butt and said Hey that sounds cool!
I quickly moved my goal of not being about a number but rather in my quality of life and what I am able to do. I learned more about Body Fat % being a better indicator than BMI so I focus on having a good body fat % right now at 210-218 it is in the 21% range which is considered normal. As I continue to build muscle and hopefully lose fat that number will come down, but as long as I can do the things I have enjoyed this past year and weight or size doesn't prevent me from doing what I want then who cares
, but I know I am a guy and we tend to look at somethings differently.

My surgeon set my goal at 136. He advised me to go to 116 or even 106 during the honeymoon to allow for bounceback. I stopped at 128 and now wish I had gone lower. After the bounceback of 15 pounds my body filled out again. I am working on taking off 10 pounds now. It will never be easier to lose weight as during the 18 months after RNY.
